Ashi fell silent.
“Wow, wow, wow.”
“Looks like you’ve been quite observant, you’ve seen every bit of your wife’s red lips!”
“He’s really something, how he stares at the baby.”
“Woohoo, the little dog isn’t good either, all he thinks about is looking at his wife instead of doing anything serious!”
“Okay,” Yan Chuan continued when Ashi didn’t respond, “Brandon isn’t as you described.”
Ashi paused for a moment and countered, “Then Duncan must have seen.”
He provocatively threw out another name, and Yan Chuan found he had no retort for that one.
Duncan was indeed a very… dangerous figure.
Yan Chuan furrowed his brows slightly.
Ashi noticed the shift in his expression and, seeing that he seemed troubled by Duncan’s impolite behavior, quickly added, “He definitely doesn’t have good intentions; with such heavy rain in the forest, they can’t go out, and who knows what they’ll do staying in the hotel.”
Yan Chuan felt a headache coming on.
Undoubtedly, the reason they were stuck in the Misty Mountain Forest was because of this heavy rain.
It was unclear when the rain would stop.
This thought gave Yan Chuan an unsettling premonition.
While they didn’t know when the rain would cease, they needed a constant supply of food and fresh water.
Water could be deferred for a while, but acquiring food in the downpour from the forest would be quite a challenge.
There were still over ten people left in the hotel.
Yan Chuan suddenly stopped and asked Ashi another question.
“How much food can the hotel supply for a while?”
His sudden inquiry left Ashi momentarily taken aback as he realized what Yan Chuan was getting at.
“Some stored cured meats, water, bread… and vegetables,” Ashi calculated the amounts. “It should last about a week.”
A week wasn’t exactly short.
Yan Chuan considered this; he felt that the duration of the script was likely related to the food supply.
If they could smoothly consume these provisions and safely ride out this storm… then it would have nothing to do with escaping the variety show.
These people were strangers to one another, still maintaining their suspicions, especially after the internal conflict and murder on the very first day.
With this thought, Yan Chuan’s delicate brows tightened even more.
“Don’t worry,” Ashi reassured him, “Tomorrow’s rain might not be too heavy. I’ll check in the morning to see if we can drive to the town.”
Yan Chuan hesitated a bit.
Ashi thought for a moment and suggested, “How about we go check how much food we have now and take some to the rooms?”
“It’s nearly dinner time,” Ashi suddenly remembered and droned on, “After what happened today, I didn’t even get a chance to clean the hotel…”
When he mentioned this, Yan Chuan recalled the dirty carpets and Duncan’s words.
“It’s fine,” Yan Chuan shook his head, “I’ll go with you to deliver some food to each of the guests.”
Since this was only the first day of the script, he had to at least maintain some order.
Ashi agreed.
They went downstairs together.
The hotel itself was quite spacious, with a storage room and kitchen behind the dining hall.
Typically, it was Ashi who cooked and cleaned, being young and strong, he worked efficiently.
Yan Chuan opened the kitchen door.
The storage room was neatly organized, with all the food stored properly on the counter.
Freshly baked bread from the morning was still inside, with a sprinkle of scallions and cheese on top. Next to it were the cured meats, which could be preserved for a long time under dry conditions.
To cater to the guests’ needs, the hotel had stored quite a bit of food, far exceeding what Ashi mentioned would last a week.
Yan Chuan took out a basket and selected a few items.
As the owner of the hotel, he needed to provide the guests with three meals a day.
Ashi prepared some corn chowder and a little vegetable soup.
By this time, it was meal time; however, after the afternoon’s events, the guests probably wouldn’t come out easily.
Staying in their rooms might be for the best. Yan Chuan thought for a while and called Ashi to deliver the food together.
Food was essential; if the hotel couldn’t even provide meals, the situation would worsen than it already was.
Yan Chuan headed upstairs.
Ashi was carrying quite a lot, so he followed behind, and Yan Chuan knocked on the first door.
“Knock knock.”
A voice came from inside, “Who is it?”
Yan Chuan replied, “The hotel owner, here to deliver dinner.”
The door of the first room on the second floor opened to reveal a young, handsome police officer.
Yan Chuan pointed at the basket he was holding.
“Dinner,” he winked, “What would you like to eat?”
In front of a fair and beautiful face, Brandon dropped his guard, opened the door, and let Yan Chuan in.
He pulled back his hands from behind, placing something back down.
Yan Chuan set the food on the small table in the room.
“All done.” After placing the food, Yan Chuan turned to leave since Ashi was right there and had just been talking about all sorts of things.
Ashi was already at the door, and Yan Chuan turned to exit.
But Brandon stopped him, saying, “Wait a moment.”
“Hmm?”
Yan Chuan turned back.
The young officer looked somewhat tense, seemingly anxious to say something important.
After a moment’s hesitation, Yan Chuan asked, “What’s up?”
What did Brandon want to discuss with them?
Following his gaze, Yan Chuan saw Ashi standing at the door and paused for a moment. He said to Ashi, “Why don’t you go deliver the rest? I’ll stay for a bit longer.”
He sent the reluctant Ashi away, then turned back to look at Brandon while holding the basket.
The bright light above illuminated Brandon’s beautiful, fair face, casting a small shadow with his dark lashes on the smooth, clean cheek.
