Yet, Yan Chuan noticed one thing.
Another gold mine.
He furrowed his delicate brows.
Hans was already dead, and with no evidence to contradict it, he still didn’t know who the person Hans mentioned might be that could help him make money in the Fog Mountain Forest.
Yan Chuan was also unclear whether this person was connected to the script’s background.
Brandon asked one more question.
“Well then,” his expression serious, “do you remember hearing anything last night?”
Lina shook her head.
“I’m sorry,” she said, spreading her hands in a gesture of helplessness. “I had some drinks and took a few pills; I slept very soundly.”
Brandon then went to ask others.
Next to Lina’s room lived Mrs. Lan, the middle-aged woman with her husband and child.
Brandon walked over, and Yan Chuan shamelessly followed.
The role of a police officer in the script allowed Yan Chuan to overhear some information about the case.
Mrs. Lan heard Brandon’s question and shook her head, slightly embarrassed.
“I’m quite old,” she said with a kind smile. “And with a child, I tend to go to bed early.”
Brandon glanced over at the middle-aged man, who was still drinking.
Mrs. Lan noticed his gaze and shook her head as well.
“He likes to drink as usual,” Mrs. Lan said with a helpless expression. “When he sleeps, he sleeps very deeply, so he probably doesn’t know anything.”
The commotion from their conversation woke the middle-aged man, who was slumped over. He lifted his head, his neck and face flushed red.
“Wha… what?” The man instinctively reached for the wine glass, but it had been taken away by a mischievous little boy, who held nothing but air. The man blinked in confusion and muttered something incoherent.
He had drunk too much, and the alcohol had likely corroded his brain, leaving his speech unclear.
While the officer was asking questions, the husband was still drinking. Mrs. Lan felt a bit embarrassed and quietly urged him to stop drinking.
The man irritably waved his hand, his expression clearly worsening, as he reached out haphazardly.
Yan Chuan stood diagonally opposite the table.
From his angle, he could see the little boy, who had just been tugging at Mrs. Lan’s blouse, making a face at the man.
With the wine glass taken away and the boy making faces at him, the man became furious and sobered up a bit.
He suddenly stood up, slammed his hand heavily on the table, and mumbled an incoherent curse. He headed directly for the wine glass in the little boy’s hand, intending to continue drinking.
The little boy was startled but quickly hid the wine glass behind him, continuing to make faces at the middle-aged man.
This obviously further enraged the middle-aged man.
He reached out again; his height made him loom over the child like a mountain.
In his dazed condition from the alcohol, he swayed as he stood up, reaching out to grab the boy’s head.
Mrs. Lan screamed, throwing herself over the boy.
The table was pushed, sending a wine bottle crashing down, spilling liquor everywhere, and shards of glass scattered everywhere.
The scene became even more chaotic than before.
Yan Chuan widened his eyes, briefly bewildered.
He instinctively reached out, wanting to pull the little boy and Mrs. Lan aside.
But Brandon’s reaction was faster.
He struck the middle-aged man’s waist hard, forcing him to bend over, and then distanced him from others.
“Ah!” The middle-aged man had just finished his drink. With a heavy blow to his waist, he doubled over in pain.
He didn’t care who he was supposed to hit anymore, as Brandon restrained his hands, pulling him aside.
Mrs. Lan’s low, continuous screams persisted.
Yan Chuan hurriedly checked the situation.
The boy was unharmed, but the flying shards of glass seemed to have grazed his arms and legs, leaving marks.
Mrs. Lan worriedly grabbed the child’s hand.
Yan Chuan thought for a moment, then turned to find Berkeley.
He remembered that Berkeley had a first aid kit, which should contain disinfectants.
The sounds in the lobby quickly attracted others.
Asher was still in the kitchen, nearly done preparing lunch, and hurried out upon hearing the commotion.
“What happened?” he asked Yan Chuan, looking puzzled. “Just now…?”
Yan Chuan shook his head and briefly explained.
“That guest smashed a wine bottle, and the glass cut the child. I want to find the guest with the first aid kit…”
Asher nodded and told him, “He seems to be upstairs…”
He added, “Lunch will be ready shortly, but I don’t know what else can be done…”
Asher looked distressed, probably also unsettled by what happened in the morning.
Yan Chuan felt the same but couldn’t show it too clearly; after all, it was only the second day since entering the script.
【I advise you not to let my wife starve】
【How can such a beautiful and delicate treasure live in such a terrible environment! Is there no justice at all in this variety show?】
【It feels like one of those cute fools who can be bribed with something tasty…】
【Damn it, now everyone looks like a yellow-haired punk riding a ghost bike to me】
“Let’s handle this first and then inform everyone about lunch,” Yan Chuan thought for a moment. “You’ve worked hard too.”
Asher shook his head.
Yan Chuan then bypassed Asher and headed upstairs.
As he walked down the corridor, he happened to run into Berkeley coming out of a room.
After Brandon didn’t find anything, the young botanist returned to his room, seemingly studying his notes.
Yan Chuan observed quietly, thinking that Berkeley might be the calmest of the guests.
On the first day, he had gone downstairs and wasn’t too surprised to see the lobby in disarray. He calmly told Duncan that he had a first aid kit; if he didn’t want to kill Vincent directly, he could treat the wounds.
