The dark-haired Asian glanced at Duncan, “Aren’t you going to defend yourself?”
【Aren’t you really a bit pleased?】
【Ah, isn’t this achieving your goal? Your wife has noticed you too.】
【This one is too fierce, he’s an aggressive sycophant with a bad temper, not your typical puppy.】
【Don’t make me laugh with those nicknames; from now on, all the NPCs in the script will just be codenames for me.】
Duncan curled his lips into a smile.
He slowly nodded under Yan Chuan’s gaze and replied unhurriedly, “Yes.”
“But I haven’t let you down,” Duncan shrugged, “I really didn’t kill anyone last night.”
His tone was certain, which only sparked Yan Chuan’s curiosity.
“Then how are you going to prove it?” Yan Chuan asked.
Brandon was the first to doubt Duncan, while the middle-aged man among the guests mentioned that Duncan was the only one with a gun, as his first impression had been quite poor.
Having a weapon and threatening others in the hotel were red flags, especially since Duncan had done both.
It was only natural that people would start doubting without thinking it through.
Yan Chuan was also a bit curious about how Duncan planned to prove his innocence.
He looked at the young man in front of him, slightly pursing his lips.
Duncan spread his hands and revealed a bullet in his palm.
“Caliber,” he said lightly, “My bullet’s caliber is about 5.45 mm, while the one on Hans is 5.8 mm; they are not the same.”
“If that officer examines it closely,” Duncan placed the bullet on Yan Chuan’s palm, indicating him to take a good look, “he will find that it’s not from the same gun.”
The cool metal rested in Yan Chuan’s palm as he stared at it.
“But…” he hesitated again and looked at Duncan, “that still doesn’t prove…”
Does Duncan only have one gun?
Yan Chuan was puzzled.
While the different calibers could prove that the bullets that hit Hans and Vincent were different, it didn’t confirm that Duncan only possessed one gun, did it?
Could this serve as a decisive reason?
Yan Chuan was uncertain, placing the bullet back into Duncan’s palm.
Duncan accepted the bullet back.
“Actually, I had one,” he said plainly, “but I don’t anymore.”
Yan Chuan asked, “Why?”
Duncan’s words left him even more confused.
Duncan put the bullet back in his pocket, his tone revealing no hint of anger or joy.
“Because it rained heavily last night,” he explained, “the soil was washed away, and our truck was swept away.”
“What?”
Yan Chuan’s eyes widened.
Duncan spread his hands, “As you can see, we can’t get out either.”
【Doesn’t that mean no one can get out?】
【I’m really worried about such a delicate and pretty baby being stuck here…】
【Counting it up, there are only four of us; not too many, not too few.】
【Counting limbs is hilarious; you all are absurd…】
New developments emerged.
Due to the heavy rain, Duncan and his group’s truck parked on the small slope had been completely washed away.
They had parked the truck a bit further, perhaps because it carried something very important that couldn’t be brought into the inn, so it had to be parked farther away.
But the storm destroyed everything, washing away not just the small slope, but also bringing down trees with shallow root systems.
The fallen trees even blocked the only way out.
After listening to Duncan, Yan Chuan went a bit blank.
Not long after, Brandon and the others returned, their expressions tense, clearly bringing back some bad news.
Ashu shook his head at Yan Chuan.
“The rain was too heavy,” Ashu said, “It caused some trees to collapse, and we didn’t find anything.”
Many cases in dramas take place during rainy nights.
Heavy rain acts as an accomplice, helping perpetrators wash away all traces of their presence, scents, footprints, and even blood, which is all swept away with the rainwater into the ground.
The dense and complex paths of the Misty Mountain Forest naturally help conceal evidence of the crime.
Brandon and the others returned covered in mud.
“But someone definitely went out last night,” Brandon looked at the remnants of wet mud on the ground and confirmed, “That was likely the killer from last night.”
Yan Chuan hesitated but nodded.
However, these traces were only found on the stairs of the second floor; everywhere else had been cleaned.
Many guests were staying on the second floor, so there were no specific pointers.
Duncan dismissed it lightly, reiterating his explanation to Brandon and the others.
“Unfortunately,” Duncan said, spreading his hands, “our truck also got washed away; we don’t know where it went.”
Brandon frowned, about to ask something when Duncan added.
“All the defensive weapons we brought were in the truck,” Duncan said bluntly, “I know better than you what was in the truck; the bullet that killed Hans is not something we brought.”
“You all suspect me with your tone,” he glanced around the lobby at the various expressions on the people’s faces, “perhaps you should consider who else might have a gun.”
“After all…” Duncan smirked slightly, “that person might not be any less harmless than I am, right?”
Author’s note:
There’s a little puppy here that doesn’t say anything but is eager to find its wife.
By the way, does anyone mind if I change my pen name? I’m thinking of changing my current four-character name to a two-character one and have a nice name in mind (shyly).
