The little boy beside them interrupted with a question, asking why.
Yaxiu, having a good temper, explained to the boy, “Because rain impacts the ground; if the soil isn’t firm, it’s easy for the rainwater to wash it away.” The green-eyed inn staff smiled, “Remember to block the tires with stones; otherwise, the car could wash right into the woods.”
The little boy looked thoughtful.
Yan Chuan followed Yaxiu’s gaze into the depths of the dense forest.
The vegetation inside was lush, and the inn was situated on higher ground. If the car went down, it would obviously be hard to find.
The prospector nodded, checked the engine again, and then closed the hood.
Fog Mountain Forest experiences rain all year round. They felt the effects when driving in.
After resolving the truck’s issues, Yan Chuan entered the inn alongside Yaxiu.
The little boy hopped over to his mother, who was seated at a corner with a middle-aged couple enjoying their meal.
The woman in a headscarf touched the boy’s face and said something, only to receive a dissatisfied grunt from her husband, who slammed his spoon down.
Yan Chuan walked behind Yaxiu, wanting to return to the counter.
He remembered there was an old-fashioned telephone behind the counter, which still used a rotary dial; he wasn’t sure if it still worked.
The script included a police officer, and perhaps the station’s number could also be dialed.
As Yan Chuan looked back at the approaching dark clouds, he recalled Yaxiu mentioning that heavy rain was coming.
But he was stopped midway.
A group of drunken prospectors in the house seemed a bit tipsy; two men stood up and staggered in front of Yan Chuan, blocking his path.
Their strong alcohol smell was overwhelming, especially the pungent odor of cheap spirits, causing Yan Chuan to frown and wish to distance himself.
However, one of the prospectors reached out and firmly blocked his steps.
“How about a drink before you leave?” The brown-haired prospector was there, eyeing Yan Chuan’s pale and beautiful face with a jovial laugh, “Your inn isn’t up to par; there’s not even anyone to drink with!”
His companion, who stood up beside him, roared with laughter, “God, are you blind? Isn’t there a pretty boy here?!”
Apart from the young man who had exchanged glances with Yan Chuan, the prospectors all shared a knowing smile.
Yan Chuan pressed his lips together.
【These dogs want my wife to drink!】
【This is too appalling, they must be cannon fodder; they clearly aren’t Yan Bao’s type.】
【Our baby likes gentle and passionate types; you all better scram!】
【I can’t take it anymore; this script can’t be filled with tall muscular men, right? I wonder if my wife can handle it…】
Author’s Note:
They are indeed cannon fodder.
Chapter 96: The Night of Terror at the Inn 2
The clouds gathered on the horizon.
The sunlight dimmed as the sun was swallowed by a distant forest. The sky returned to a gray hue, and the mottled clouds showed uneven colors, with blurred light seeping from their edges.
That somewhat bright light faded, and the Fog Mountain Forest darkened immediately, heavy mist spreading out, with only a flicker of firelight visible from the windows of the inn on the mountaintop.
The fireplace crackled, the roaring flames casting irregular shadows on the walls.
The prospectors blocking the way were clearly drunk, not realizing that their shirts were stained with alcohol; the strong stench of cheap liquor invaded Yan Chuan’s nostrils.
Tall and robust men squeezed in front and behind, trapping the Asian youth in between.
The “pretty boy” they spoke of had his lashes drooping in low light, making his skin appear even whiter, and casting a small shadow on his cheeks.
His delicate brows furrowed, and he unconsciously took a step back, slightly turning his face away.
His expression clearly indicated displeasure, tinged with a bit of disgust; his trembling lashes stirred something within others.
“You’re drunk,” Yan Chuan frowned, trying to avoid eye contact with the blocking prospectors, speaking to himself, “You can go back to your room to sober up; the beds are all arranged.”
His tone was somewhat stiff compared to normal, but he had a pleasant voice; it reached the ears of the drunken brown-haired prospector like a cat’s paw, heating his gaze.
While it all started with just two drunken prospectors acting out, the group soon turned their attention to Yan Chuan upon hearing his voice.
The young man in a black shirt, with the collar buttoned all the way up, looked over with interest.
The brown-haired prospector slammed his drink down.
The inn was nestled deep in the forest, needing supplies that the diligent staff member, Yaxiu, transported weekly in a dilapidated truck to the nearest town.
That was the only road out of the Fog Mountain Forest, passable only when the rain stopped.
In this condition, the beers provided certainly weren’t expensive varieties, and it was impossible to get drunk on a few drinks; it was just the prospectors acting out in their tipsy state.
The brown-haired prospector had a fairly decent appearance, but because of the alcohol, his cheeks were flushed, and his eyes appeared thick and cloudy, making him quite unlikable.
His unabashed laughter quickly attracted the attention of everyone in the lobby; a woman with a headscarf covered her young son’s ears, murmuring to herself. The young couple at another table whispered to each other, and the solo blonde police officer tensed as he placed a hand on his side.
This seemed to be an all-too-classic case of drunken harassment.
The young and beautiful Asian innkeeper was about to be entangled by a few ill-mannered guests, quickly to be stopped by the vigilante onlookers.
Yet Yan Chuan knew it was not that simple.
His eyes skimmed over the group of prospectors, pausing briefly on the bulges at their waists, roughly outlining the shape of firearms.
Yan Chuan lowered his eyelids.
This group was not just ordinary drunken travelers; they were armed with weapons and had come prepared.
They were strong and numerous, and they carried guns.
