If he showed even a hint of embarrassment, this group would only escalate their behavior.
The gold seekers continued to laugh, but Yan Chuan had already stopped looking at them.
His role in the script was that of the innkeeper, which seemed neutral on the surface, yet he remained somewhat wary of this group of “gold seekers.”
The Foggy Mountain Forest had seen several gold mines discovered over twenty years ago, and all the exploitable ones had already been developed. So why were there suddenly a new group of gold seekers now?
Moreover, among the travelers present, they were the most numerous and had unusual identities.
Of course, upon their first meeting, they did not seem to be good people.
Yan Chuan didn’t believe the information given in the script was useless.
There had to be a connection between the gold seekers and the abandoned gold mines in the forest.
In the inn, where a murder was about to occur, there was also an NPC dressed as a police officer carrying a gun.
Yan Chuan’s gaze briefly scanned the lone officer, who offered him a somewhat friendly smile as if to comfort him.
“Cool!”
Suddenly, a child’s disapproving voice came from outside the wide-open door.
Yan Chuan looked outside and caught a glimpse of a black truck parked at the entrance.
The truck’s hood was raised, revealing a young man in a work vest bent over fixing something with a wrench.
Next to him was a boy dressed in a white sailor suit, making a surprised expression and pointing at the truck’s engine while talking to the young man.
As Yan Chuan watched, he unexpectedly locked eyes with the young mechanic.
The other man, as if recognizing him, flashed him a warm smile, waving his oil-stained wrench in greeting.
The young mechanic had golden hair, deep-set eyes, a prominent nose, and eyes the color of a pine forest, with a few freckles adorning his cheeks.
There was no shadow of gloom in his expression, and when he smiled, he revealed bright white teeth, making him look very cheerful.
Yan Chuan heard the young man call out, “Boss!” from afar.
After some thought, realizing he was the innkeeper and that this man was calling him the boss, he concluded that he must be an employee of the inn.
At that moment, the laughter and chatter from the gold seekers grew bolder, their words becoming increasingly distasteful, deepening the furrow in Yan Chuan’s brow.
He considered his options, picked up a cup of water, and directly walked outside.
The inn was situated on a low hill.
Perhaps due to the forest being shrouded in fog and rain for years, the air was incredibly humid, leading to the inn being built on slightly higher ground to prevent rainwater from flooding it.
The vegetation in Foggy Mountain was dense; from a distance, the misty forest resembled a gray-green ribbon, winding through an ocean of trees and disappearing into the sky.
Uncertain if a heavy rain was approaching, even though the sun was out, the air still felt a bit oppressive.
Indeed, it was Foggy Mountain.
A man dressed as a gold seeker stood beside the truck, talking to the young mechanic about something while retrieving parts from the cabin of the truck.
It seemed this truck belonged to the gold seekers.
There was a problem with the truck, so an employee from the inn was repairing it in front of the vehicle.
Yan Chuan lowered his eyelids, avoiding the gaze of the gold seekers as he stepped outside with the cup of water.
He stopped in front of the truck and casually handed the water cup to the young mechanic.
“Here, drink some water,” Yan Chuan said, explaining his purpose for coming out.
The gold seekers measuring him up exchanged glances, their gazes unnerving and sticky, as they flicked back and forth between him and the young mechanic, revealing inscrutable smiles.
Yan Chuan ignored them.
The cup he handed over was a transparent glass one, and his delicate fingers rested on it, clean and white, with a hint of pink at the fingertips.
His wrist was slender, and the exposed portion of his forearm was also a creamy white that stood out in the dull weather.
It resembled pudding on a plate, or soft whipped cream.
The Asian innkeeper, with his black hair, appeared much more fragile compared to them, with a smaller bone structure. His features were soft and exquisite, reminiscent of a porcelain doll, offering a beauty that seemed out of place against the dense forest backdrop.
“Thank you!” Ash, the mechanic, placed the oil-stained wrench aside and expressed his thanks with surprise.
He stood up, casually tugging at the hem of his vest to wipe the sweat from his brow.
As he lifted his shirt, revealing a defined set of abs, his physique was smooth and strong.
This action might have seemed a bit theatrical if done by someone else, but Ash was young and handsome, his bright smile complemented by a hint of bashfulness, making it seem as if it were entirely unintentional.
The cup was taken by Ash.
He tilted his head back and drank a few gulps, then promptly removed his vest entirely, seemingly too warm, drenching the remaining water on his sun-kissed body.
Ash’s tall stature was covered in a thin layer of muscle, not overly impressive but appearing solid and strong. A smudge of oil on his abdomen was accidentally smeared off by him.
The entire process seemed unintentional, yet one of the nearby gold seekers loudly praised him, asking what kind of workout he did to achieve such a physique.
Reluctantly viewing another man’s robust body, Yan Chuan silently shifted his gaze.
【Why is there a half-naked guy in here so soon? Our baby is very innocent, and we can’t look at such things!】
【A young, muscular blonde guy working on a truck, he looks really strong.】
【Is this inn filled with a lot of interesting tenants…?】
【Beautiful Asian innkeeper x enthusiastic car-washing puppy, I’m taking a bite first!】
“Almost done,” Ash said, finishing his water before smiling at the gold seekers, “We’ll start it up in a bit; there’s just something stuck in the engine.”
The gold seeker nodded, pulling a cigarette from the pocket of his waistband, making to offer it to him.
Ash shook his head.
“Our innkeeper doesn’t like the smell of smoke,” he said, his expression slightly more serious, “I don’t smoke.”
The gold seeker, feeling a bit awkward, didn’t take offense and put the cigarette away.
Perhaps it was because Ash had helped him with the repair; the gold seeker still gave him some face.
Ash, bearing his torso, glanced at the weather and told the gold seeker, “It’s going to rain again tomorrow, so make sure to park the truck properly.”
