Yan Chuan felt as if he had returned to the little sofa in the punishment world, curled up in a corner, with someone pressing down on his shoulders.
“Smack!”
Yan Chuan swatted away Dan Qi’s outstretched hand.
The sound wasn’t loud, but in the stuffy atmosphere of the hall, it was very clear. People were already paying attention to what was happening here; with such a disturbance, nearly all the contestants turned to look.
What is going on?
Feeling the probing gazes directed at him, Yan Chuan furrowed his brows even tighter.
Unfortunately, Dan Qi was still unwilling to stop. After being swatted away, he didn’t retract his hand, letting his palm rest on Yan Chuan’s shoulder, warmth radiating from it.
Yan Chuan had little strength, and that slap was barely impactful, leaving just a faint mark on Dan Qi’s slightly darker arm.
However, there was a hint of grievance in Dan Qi’s eyes, as if he didn’t understand why he had suddenly been swatted.
If that slap had landed on his face, it was likely he wouldn’t have reacted any differently than now.
Yan Chuan’s cheeks were burning, and he felt utterly flushed.
“Let’s talk outside.” With ambiguous glances coming from all directions, Yan Chuan opened his mouth but ultimately said, “I’ll explain later…”
There were too many people in the hall; they couldn’t really talk about anything here.
Fortunately, after being slapped, Dan Qi calmed down a bit, realizing that this wasn’t a good place to converse, and nodded.
Yan Chuan pressed his lips together: “Then stop looking at me…”
When their eyes met, he added, “Don’t look anywhere!”
A few memes quickly circulated among the contestants, poking fun at the embarrassing moment.
On the car ride,
Yan Chuan and Dan Qi exited the villa without any issues.
Their task approval was completed, the rewards were distributed on time, and after the system broadcasted, the villa door was opened for them.
As the door closed behind them, cutting off the gazes from the other contestants in the hall, Yan Chuan sighed in relief and said to Dan Qi, “Let’s head back first.”
He might need a long time to forget what happened in the villa, but right now, all Yan Chuan wanted was to leave this place as soon as possible.
In a short while, he didn’t want to see anything related to the roulette game again.
Dan Qi followed behind him, responding affirmatively.
After walking a short distance, they got into the car; the parking lot was still crowded, and they were probably among the first contestants to leave.
Yan Chuan rolled down the car window, feeling a gust of cold wind and a slight relief from the warmth on his cheeks.
However, there still lingered a subtle itch in his chest.
Unable to resist, Yan Chuan tugged at the hem of his shirt, ensuring the collar was snugly closed.
He turned to look at Dan Qi again.
The latter was driving steadily, having calmed down after leaving.
Yan Chuan closed the window.
The road was quiet with only a few scattered cars, so he spoke up.
“Do you know how NPCs come into the escape variety show?” Yan Chuan asked out of nowhere.
Dan Qi paused for a moment: “They come built into the script?”
Yan Chuan shook his head: “That’s not what I meant.”
“The reason I’m asking is,” he organized his words, “I just saw an NPC I encountered in the script…”
Dan Qi quickly responded, “The ‘husband’ from the apartment script?”
Yan Chuan paused, recalling that Dan Qi had experienced that script as well, and nodded: “There’s another one.”
Dan Qi looked at him with a puzzled expression: “Another one?”
Yan Chuan pressed his lips together, feeling inexplicably embarrassed, as if he had not just encountered an NPC but an old flame instead.
“Um,” he nodded again, vaguely saying, “It seemed like he still remembered me…”
The author has something to say:
I’m here to help my wife eliminate evidence, ha ha ha!
Chapter 95: A Night of Terror at the Inn
Yan Chuan wasn’t quite sure how to describe to Dan Qi what had happened during his live-streaming script.
He just vaguely mentioned that his character was a small streamer in a dress, and as a streamer, he occasionally collaborated with other streamers, which is how he came to know the NPCs in the script.
As for why he was certain that Ke Li was NPC… Yan Chuan thought for a moment and asked Dan Qi: “After entering a solo script, is there also a chance of encountering contestants with an NPC identity?”
His phrasing seemed slightly off, so he added, “He might also be a contestant in the script.”
Dan Qi held the steering wheel, pondered for a while, and then nodded.
“It’s possible,” he said, “In fact, many things about the escape variety show can’t be verified since many contestants also disappear during the escape variety, and it’s reasonable to consider that contestants could become NPCs in the escape variety.”
Yan Chuan, somewhat understanding, nodded his head.
In his heart, however, he harbored another, stranger thought, which he didn’t voice.
What Yan Chuan was thinking was, could contestants who disappear in the escape variety possibly become NPCs?
Or are some people really able to successfully attain the points needed to fulfill their wishes and leave the escape variety?
Yan Chuan reflected on the names he had seen on the points leaderboard; several of them were greyed out.
One was missing, and another had been lost in the escape variety.
Their points were unimaginably high—he didn’t even know what kind of wishes could reach such high points while remaining unable to escape the escape variety.
Yan Chuan thought quietly to himself.
The wish he used to prolong his life only required a hundred thousand points.
Thinking of this, Yan Chuan asked Dan Qi again.
