“Strange” needs to be in quotation marks because the latter’s attitude toward him is very familiar.
It’s as if they acted like a couple who had been together for a long time… not only comforting him but also feeling guilty.
Yan Chuan shook his head, driving away the strange thoughts that had emerged in his mind.
Now that he was here, he could only learn the situation from the man beside him and figure out how to leave this room.
The man’s attitude toward him was quite good; his tone was soothing and not at all what Yan Chuan imagined—a bloody scene waiting as he entered the room.
It was much more peaceful than he had anticipated; he felt as if he were facing a common life situation interrupted by a power outage.
“Can you fix the wiring?” Yan Chuan turned slightly, lifting his head toward the man: “Is that possible?”
Due to a slight worry, his voice trembled a little, sounding inexplicably soft and a bit like a whine.
The man nodded immediately.
“It’s no trouble; I’ll just go outside to take a look.” The deep-voiced man fumbled around for the switch on the wall and said, “I’ll be quick; just wait here.”
Yan Chuan nodded.
He naturally didn’t dare to wander around randomly, fearing he might encounter “things” in the room, so he obediently stood still, waiting for the man to return.
Footsteps faded away, as if he had opened the door and gone outside, indicating it would take a while to come back.
Yan Chuan clenched his fist, feeling a slight dampness on his palm.
He frowned and touched his wrist, where the man had held him.
It seemed that the other man’s warmth still lingered on him, but it was much lower than his normal body temperature, completely out of a healthy person’s range.
Yan Chuan let out a breath.
The man who just went out was probably not human.
Once this conclusion dawned on him, Yan Chuan felt nervous again.
So the “punishment” assigned to him by the escape variety show is… sharing a room with a ghost?
But it also seemed to have given him a sort of identity akin to a scripted character, suggesting that he had some relationship with this “man”.
Living together, with the other person comforting him not to be afraid of the power outage?
A rather improbable answer surfaced in Yan Chuan’s mind.
Soon, the man returned.
As the footsteps grew closer, Yan Chuan held his breath, a little anxiously leaning against the cold wall.
If the wiring was fixed and the lights turned on, he would finally be able to see what the “man” looked like.
And… perhaps guess their relationship.
The man brought a flashlight and maintenance tools.
With his long arms and legs, he knew exactly what to do, quickly replacing the broken light bulb with a new one.
“The bulb was broken,” he said, using the flashlight to examine the charred bulb before telling Yan Chuan, “I replaced it; let’s see if it works now.”
Yan Chuan nodded.
He had just leaned against the wall’s switch and knew where it was.
“Should I turn on the light?” Yan Chuan asked the man in front of him.
The man nodded.
Yan Chuan’s tone was calm, but only he knew how much his voice trembled; even his hand reaching for the switch shook a little.
In the darkness, a single beam of light from the flashlight illuminated the ceiling, casting their silhouettes long against the wall.
Under this light, Yan Chuan’s face appeared even paler, with dark hair draping over half of his face, and his long eyelashes hanging down giving him a pitiful look.
With delicate pink-tinted fingertips, he pressed firmly on the switch.
Due to his nerves, he didn’t activate it the first time he reached for it.
“Click.”
The light turned on; the repaired bulb connected with the power supply, quickly illuminating the entire room.
Yan Chuan was finally able to see the face of the man in front of him.
Having spent too long in the dark, his vision was a bit blurry when exposed to the sudden light, but after a moment he managed to focus.
【Where did this bad man come from who wants to bully his wife?!】
【Ah! Is he Yan Bao’s dead husband, the one forever living in the narration?】
【This variety show is such a battlefield, with both real and fake husbands on scene…】
【Why are there so many bad men encountered by the baby, mommy feels so sorry, hehe.】
Before him was a handsome face.
The man was about twenty-five or twenty-six, with defined features, deep-set eyes, and a high nose. His irises were a slightly deep shade of gray, and his jawline was outstanding.
He exuded a mature and stern demeanor, with a commanding presence that made him appear a bit fierce, the type not particularly liked by Yan Chuan.
The man wore only a black shirt, with a few buttons undone. He was tall, with long limbs; Yan Chuan could only reach his shoulder, looking up at him and feeling even thinner and more delicate in comparison.
Subconsciously, Yan Chuan tightened the hem of his shirt.
Could this also be someone familiar assigned to him by the escape show?
He lifted his gaze to the man in front of him, his expression reflecting a hint of confusion.
His dark, bright eyes widened, his lashes blinking as his lips parted slightly.
“What’s wrong?”
The man put down his toolbox and strode over to him, asking with genuine concern, “Are you still scared?”
One hand waved in front of him, gently brushing against his pale cheek.
Yan Chuan shook his head.
“No,” he replied softly, “It’s just the light is too bright; I wasn’t used to it for a moment.”
The man nodded upon hearing this.
He extended his long arm, pulling Yan Chuan into his embrace, shielding his forehead with his palm.
“Let’s go into the bedroom,” the man said as he glanced around the living room, muttering, “Tomorrow, I’ll replace it with a dimmer bulb.”
As the warmth of another person leaned upon his shoulder, Yan Chuan instinctively shivered.
Going into the bedroom?
There’s a bedroom here?
With the light now on, Yan Chuan swept his gaze across the room and realized it was a studio-style apartment.
They had just been in the living room, and the overhead bulb was broken, leaving them in darkness.
Inside was the bedroom, and it was surprisingly cozy, with warm yellow wallpaper adorning the walls.
