Yuan Chuan tried to describe the history of the confinement island prison and the existence of the “monster” using concise language.
“In the end, it was that prison guard who sent me off on the supply boat leaving the confinement island,” he said. “But the side mission wasn’t complete yet; I stayed a few more days in the small town of the script and saw the news in the newspaper.”
“Anyway, this script is about revenge, and the positions of the prisoners and the guards are completely opposing.”
The display screen emitted a “beep beep” sound indicating the task was completed.
A red light flashed, marking the end of the countdown.
The first contestant spent nearly five minutes on their task.
Yuan Chuan cast a glance at the spinning wheel, feeling a bit more at ease.
This special variety format was somewhat similar to “Truth or Dare,” except the contestants were divided into groups and selected tasks through the spinning wheel.
There weren’t only contestants; there were also the NPCs encountered in the script.
Yuan Chuan caught a glimpse of Ke Li and Su there with his peripheral vision.
He still didn’t know whether these two were NPCs or real contestants.
However, it was also possible that they were both contestants and served as NPCs in the script.
Thinking of this, Yuan Chuan frowned slightly.
No contestant had posted in the forum saying they encountered NPCs who were also participants in the escape variety show, nor had they mentioned that NPCs could invade the real world.
Did they know their true identities?
Yuan Chuan didn’t know the answer.
Or perhaps, coincidentally, he mistook them for someone else?
The probability of that was quite low.
Not only did they look alike, but their names and personalities matched as well; their eager gazes seemed to be just short of rushing over to recognize him.
But seeing someone he had once encountered in the script in reality… Yuan Chuan pursed his lips; that NPC from before must be the first of its kind, right?
That being said, Yuan Chuan diverted his attention to look at other tables.
The contestants had indeed started simultaneously, and after five minutes, some tables had completed their first contestant’s task.
But their luck didn’t seem to be so good.
At a long table just a few meters away, the white tablecloth was already stained with splattered blood.
The sound of dripping sent chills down his spine, and he could smell the rust entering his nostrils.
Yuan Chuan frowned as he noticed one less person at that long table, and the remaining contestants looked panicked.
It seemed that the task he had drawn was… to push open a door in the corridor?
But he had no idea what had happened inside; before leaving, one had struggled and left a pool of rust marks on the table.
They had been warned by the escape variety that they should not think about evading tasks.
Yuan Chuan looked at the empty seat, a chill gradually creeping in.
Truth or Dare was manageable, but if faced with such a “dare”…
It was better to forget it; the chances of encountering danger were too high.
The traumas experienced in the script had a chance of healing after successfully clearing the task, but the invitation brought them to the real world, where injuries couldn’t be treated.
The special variety continued; each long table’s wheel spun, and the display screen ticked away the time.
Yuan Chuan couldn’t bear to look anymore and lowered his head to focus on the clean white tablecloth in front of him.
The pointer stopped.
The screen displayed the words.
“Please have the contestant drink a cup of beverage prepared by the previous contestant.”
Yuan Chuan blinked.
Indeed, there was a row of tables in the corner of the hall, displaying beverages for the guests to help themselves.
But the contestants were not here for a banquet; why would they actively reach for the drinks on the table?
Heaven knows what was in them.
Yet now, the task drawn by Ke Li was… to drink the beverage he prepared?
Yuan Chuan felt something was off.
During grouping, it seemed the escape show was quite pleased to see contestants who had participated in the same script being assigned to the same group; he, Shan Qi, and Tang Zhen were examples.
Ke Li and Su were also people he barely knew.
Other contestants could surely see familiar faces at the long table as well.
When choosing scripts, the escape variety didn’t care much about the distinction between multi-person scripts and individual scripts; the difficulty of assessments and scoring rewards were unrelated to the number of contestants.
This led many contestants to prefer choosing multi-person scripts, entering scripts with familiar contestants to increase the chances of success.
Among the familiar contestants, some could help each other, while others might have conflicts.
If faced with such a task that put the decision of what others would drink in the hands of the contestants at the table.
Those who wanted to walk out of the villa safely would be fine; but if they encountered contestants with grudges or conflicts, wouldn’t they add something to the drink?
The task required them to drink beverages prepared by other contestants… it didn’t say others couldn’t add anything to the drink.
Or they could mix everything on the table together; as long as something toxic was added, it would be enough to ensnare the contestant.
This variety show was indeed quite dangerous.
Yuan Chuan glanced over at the tightly closed door.
Even the windows were shut; only the doors along the corridor were ajar, and he had no idea what was behind them.
Before completing the task, none of them would be able to leave.
But Ke Li still needed to continue with the task he received.
The young man with platinum hair carelessly pushed his bangs aside.
His obsidian brow bones glistened as if they could absorb all the light, revealing each facet only when he turned slightly.
Ke Li’s gaze landed unerringly on Yuan Chuan.
It was hard to describe the kind of look he had—intensely eager and focused, staring intently at Yuan Chuan.
Others were, of course, also looking at him.
Especially Shan Qi, who seemed to exchange glances with Tang Zhen, but the former quickly shifted his attention back to Yuan Chuan.
