Chapter 78: Isolation Island Prison 15.
Yan Chuan had spent a full two days beside the warden.
Ever since he learned that the person “Leon” might not exist and went to Leo to verify it, he had been caught by Ariel, and it had been exactly two days.
During these two days, the handcuffs on his wrists were only briefly removed while he showered or slept, never during meals.
The warden, with a cold and indifferent expression, was the one feeding him.
Initially embarrassed and feeling awkward, Yan Chuan eventually found himself telling Ariel what he didn’t like to eat and requesting substitutions.
Not only was he picky, but he also acted spoiled, complaining that Ariel’s cutting skills were poor and that he didn’t like soup with spices.
He ate slowly, chewing each bite, and consumed only a little—truly a little emperor.
Facing the clearly annoying little thief, the warden’s choice was to—ring the bell and call someone to bring something new.
Eventually, Yan Chuan spent less time eating.
He intended to be so bothersome that the warden would get tired of him and throw him back into his cell, but the warden graciously accepted all his complaints, making Yan Chuan ponder if he was being too much.
After all the fuss, it was he who ended up exhausted.
Realizing this, Yan Chuan stopped resisting and obediently ate his meals.
The script task was also delayed.
“The contestant triggers a side quest,” the cold mechanical voice echoed in his ear, resounding like heavenly music to Yan Chuan: “Side Quest Two: Obtain the map of Isolation Island Prison.”
At that moment, Yan Chuan was sitting bored on a chair, counting the horizontal bars on the back of the chair he was handcuffed to, when he heard the escape variety show announce the task.
The monotone voice pulled him back to reality, reminding him that he was still a contestant who had tasks to complete, not a little thief trying to outsmart the warden.
Yan Chuan straightened up, casually glancing at Ariel.
The new task was to… obtain the map of Isolation Island Prison.
Maps like that were certainly kept by the warden or other important guards.
After all, wasn’t he currently in the core office of Isolation Island Prison, sitting next to the warden?
Before Yan Chuan could get excited, he quickly thought of a very unfavorable situation.
The map he needed for the task was most likely in this office, but the warden was present. How could he make the warden leave to give him space to search for it?
Yan Chuan felt it wasn’t very likely.
When Ariel wasn’t around, he could consider how to sneak in, but Ariel wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon, and he was bound to him—wherever Ariel went, he had to go too.
There was a task to do, but no way to do it.
Yan Chuan pursed his lips; the excitement he had felt moments ago vanished. His long eyelashes drooped, adding an air of desolation.
Plus, he really didn’t understand what the warden wanted.
He had caught him stealing his stamp but showed no intention of taking it back. Instead, he directly handcuffed Yan Chuan to himself, bringing him along wherever he went.
Yan Chuan couldn’t figure out if the lost item was essential or not in Ariel’s eyes.
If it was important, he wasn’t in a hurry to retrieve it; if it wasn’t important, why keep him around for “supervision,” claiming he should wait until Yan Chuan changed his stealing habit?
It was quite contradictory.
Yan Chuan looked down at the handcuffs, shaking them a couple of times.
They still wouldn’t budge.
Yan Chuan’s mood soured even more.
“Knock knock.”
A series of knocks came, and Ariel looked up, saying, “Come in.”
The person outside entered.
Yan Chuan pursed his lips, pretending to be a doll placed on the chair.
During these past two days, Ariel had genuinely brought him to wherever he went, and there was nothing related to Isolation Island Prison that Ariel avoided discussing in front of him.
When someone first came in to report, Yan Chuan felt so embarrassed he nearly wanted to find a crack in the ground to hide in.
But the warden didn’t feel the same way.
He conveyed orders and handled tasks without hiding anything from Yan Chuan, close enough that Yan Chuan could see exactly what was written on the documents being presented if he just looked up.
After several times, Yan Chuan became slightly bolder.
Another person arrived, and Yan Chuan had to close his eyes, pretending he couldn’t hear anything.
This time, however, he heard a voice that was quite familiar.
“Received information, the supply ship will dock in two days.” The deep voice sounded, tone flat: “Should we issue a directive?”
That voice was…
Yan Chuan kept his eyes closed, but his ears perked up.
Ariel said a few casual phrases, basically instructing that the supply ship shouldn’t leave immediately after docking.
Yan Chuan had no interest in what Ariel said in response, and he quietly opened his eyes.
The guard coming to find the warden was young and handsome, tall with a pair of soft brown eyes.
Those eyes were now focused, politely listening to the warden’s orders.
He nodded slightly, indicating that he understood and would convey the warden’s intentions.
Sitting beside him in the chair, Yan Chuan: …
It was Leo.
Yan Chuan instinctively tightened his palm, and his fingertips grasped air in vain.
He was the one used to gather information about Isolation Island Prison, to fool the patrols… and also the poor guard who had been deceived by his pitiful appearance.
Yan Chuan didn’t know what expression he was wearing.
The location where Ariel caught him was also in Leo’s office.
Before coming, Yan Chuan had rehearsed in his mind how he would respond if he encountered Leo halfway through his exploration, how to smooth over the situation, but he never expected the one to push the door open would be the warden.
