“Mr. Nan, are you the only investor for this movie?” That would mean a huge profit!
Shuai Chang could tell from his tone what he was thinking: “Little money grubber, aren’t you the one who’s not concerned about these billions, Mu Xiaoye?”
“Mr. Nan, hurry, the movie is starting!” Mu Chengguang skillfully changed the topic.
I must say, this movie is great for watching during the New Year; its suspenseful moments were thrilling, interspersed with humor that had the cinema bursting into laughter now and then. Mu Chengguang was shaking violently in his seat, almost dropping the popcorn. “Hahaha, Mr. Nan, look at how silly he is, hahaha.”
Shuai Chang: “…” He was too focused on Mu Chengguang, afraid he would fall out of his seat, and hardly paid attention to the movie.
Two hours passed quickly, and many people left saying they were still craving more and wanted to see it again.
“Mr. Nan, you really have great taste. This movie is bound to be a huge hit. Let’s come watch it again when we have time, okay?”
Shuai Chang extended his index finger and gently wiped away the tears that had streamed down Mu Chengguang’s face from laughing too hard. “I have plenty of time; I can accommodate you.”
Thinking about his annoying work, Mu Chengguang felt glum. “I wonder what my dad is thinking; as soon as he gets to the headquarters, he makes me work overtime every day.”
Unbeknownst to him, Mu Feng was using this method to keep him away from that little demon.
When they exited the cinema, Li Cheng was already waiting for them outside with the car. As soon as Mu Chengguang got in, he started discussing the plot with Li Cheng. Despite Li Cheng not responding, Mu Chengguang was excitedly rambling on, and Shuai Chang, seeing him so animated that he was almost leaning onto Li Cheng, quickly pulled him back. “Sit properly, don’t distract Li Cheng while he’s driving.”
“Alright, alright, Li Cheng didn’t say anything. Mr. Nan, you’re a bit suspicious. Are you jealous?” Mu Chengguang smirked.
Shuai Chang: “…” It’s undeniable; he felt a bit sour.
The new product from the Mu Group was launched just before the Lantern Festival. Thanks to the publicity department’s successful promotions, coupled with the excellent quality of the product, it was snatched up as soon as it hit the shelves in multiple cities.
Mu Feng praised the publicity department highly and gave them a half-month vacation.
With a phone call, Mu Feng summoned Mu Chengguang, who was resting at home, to the chairman’s office.
In the elevator, he ran into his brothers, Mu Songtao and Mu Baichun. Mu Songtao’s expression was grim while Mu Baichun seemed lost in thought. Both were taken aback upon seeing Mu Chengguang.
Mu Baichun managed a forced smile and said, “I heard that the publicity department managed by Chengguang did quite well.”
Feeling confident with his newfound backing, Mu Chengguang wasn’t afraid of these two at all and cheerfully replied, “Yep! Father called me to his office; I wonder what kind of reward he has for me.”
Mu Songtao scoffed, “It might be a scolding.”
Mu Chengguang’s heart jumped, yet he kept smiling. “Who knows?” Even if he felt uncertain inside, he couldn’t show weakness in front of his adversaries.
The chairman’s office was on the top floor, while Mu Songtao and Mu Baichun had their offices one floor below. As they stepped out of the elevator, Mu Baichun suddenly turned around with a meaningful smile. “Chengguang, remember to talk nicely with father. Don’t make him angry.”
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Mu Chengguang thought to himself that Mu Baichun was indeed scheming against him again. He just didn’t know what major issue would provoke their father’s anger. He had been working diligently, and whenever he encountered something he didn’t understand, he asked Mr. Nan directly, not making a single mistake.
Mu Feng’s office was furnished in a vintage style. The first thing one noticed upon entering was a display of antique vases of various shapes on the shelves, and the second was an elegant landscape painting hanging behind Mu Feng’s desk.
Mu Chengguang obediently walked up to Mu Feng. “Dad, did you call for me? Is there news about the office building?”
Mu Feng sat in a grand, high-backed chair, his eyes examining Mu Chengguang from head to toe. “You little brat, abandoning me and your brothers to spend the New Year at someone else’s house; what do you plan to do for the Lantern Festival?”
“Going home to celebrate! I must go home!” Mu Chengguang replied, a look of expectation on his face. “So does this mean you agree that I can bring him home for the Lantern Festival? I love you so much, dad!”
Mu Feng frowned and reprimanded, “Stop throwing around words like ‘love’.” Yet, he couldn’t help but smile slightly at the corners of his mouth.
Mu Feng opened a drawer and threw a file folder onto the desk. “Looking for a suitable match for marriage is important. For example, your second brother and sister-in-law from the Yan family have backgrounds that are fairly equal to ours. Their union is not just because they like each other, but more importantly, the Yan family and the Mu family have a smooth working relationship, leading to significant benefits for both companies. This Nan Yu comes from a poor background; he’s currently a teacher at a school earning just a few thousand a month, and he has to support his impoverished relatives. Have you ever thought about the kind of challenges you would face if you married him? A whole nest of parasites!”
Mu Chengguang silently opened the folder and flipped through it; it contained a detailed investigation on Nan Yu, even noting that he worked part-time jobs and didn’t socialize with classmates while he was in school.
Mu Chengguang caressed the youthful photo of Nan Yu inside. Mr. Nan’s smile was as warm as ever. “Dad,” Mu Chengguang said with a smile, “This must have come from my second brother, right? Mr. Nan resigned a long time ago, and his wealth is no less than our entire corporation. If we’re talking about matching backgrounds, it’s actually me who’s climbing too high!”
Mu Feng frowned, “He’s just a poor kid with no money or power—how dare he compare to our group? Have you lent him money? Aren’t you afraid of being scammed?”
Mu Chengguang pulled out his phone and searched for “Chengguang Film Culture Co., Ltd.” to show to Mu Feng. “Look, Dad, Mr. Nan’s company invested in a movie, and the box office has already surpassed two billion. He’s practically a billionaire!”
“Where did he get the capital to register his company?” Mu Feng glared at Mu Chengguang.
“I lent him one point five million, and after two months, he paid me back three point one million. Dad, have you ever heard of someone who amassed billions in less than half a year? Mr. Nan is a genius!” Mu Chengguang felt tired standing and sat down on a solid wooden chair, “I found him; my luck is better than winning the lottery. Look, he even uses my name for the company, which shows how much he loves me. Besides, about his family, Mr. Nan can fully support them; the parasites won’t reach our family.”
Mu Feng fell silent. If things were truly as Mu Chengguang described, accepting Nan Yu as a son-in-law would not be a loss for him but an advantage.
“Go back for now. Remember to bring Nan Yu home for the Lantern Festival.”
“Will do! Thanks, Dad!” Mu Chengguang happily hugged the materials about Nan Yu as he went home.
