Fan Luojia exerted force on his hand, causing Shuichang to wince in pain. He understood that Shuichang could not let go of his feelings. Sighing, he said, “Alright, like acting all you want, but I won’t let you take on any period dramas in the future. Filming a summer drama in winter would just freeze people to death.”
Someone knocked on the car window. Fan Luojia thought it was his assistant returning. When he opened the door, a person swiftly jumped in and sat next to Yin Haidong. After being startled, Shuichang glared angrily at the person clinging to Yin Haidong.
“Who is he?” Fan Luojia asked angrily.
The newcomer wore plain embroidered clothing, a wig on his head, and sunglasses. Shuichang forcibly pushed him away, squinting his eyes as he replied, “I’d like to know too.”
The person removed his sunglasses, revealing a thin layer of sweat covering his face, his features reminiscent of a painting obscured by the misty rain of Jiangnan.
“Shen Yunqing? What are you doing here?” Shuichang asked sternly, stopping Shen Yunqing from lunging at him again.
“Haidong, I’m currently with the ‘A Long Song’ production team. You haven’t contacted me for a long time, and when I saw you just now, I couldn’t help but chase after you. Haidong, can we be as good as before?”
Without Yin Haidong as his backing, Shen Yunqing, despite his good looks, faced many hardships in the previous production. He had heard that Yin Haidong’s brother was part of the ‘A Long Song’ crew and that Yin Haidong frequently visited the set, prompting him to seek a small role after wrapping up his previous scenes.
Unexpectedly, on his first day, he ran into Yin Haidong during a visit.
“He is Shen Yunqing, isn’t he that Yunqing mentioned by Vice President Ling?” Fan Luojia thought the name sounded familiar and recalled where he had heard it, “Haidong, what is your relationship with him?!” Did they have a prior connection that he wasn’t aware of?
Shuichang was infuriated by Shen Yunqing’s behavior. With a cold expression and a powerful aura, Shen Yunqing instinctively shrank back, speaking with a plaintive tone, “Haidong, considering our past friendship, could you help me?”
“Shen Yunqing, stop trying to confuse things. We only knew each other as children, and after my aunt’s mysterious passing at your home, our families have cut off ties. If you know what’s good for you, get out of the car immediately. Yin Enterprises does not need employees who recklessly cling to relationships.”
Shuichang’s words were not light, and Shen Yunqing felt a jolt in his heart.
He was an employee of Yin Enterprises, where Yin Haidong held the power over his fate. If Yin Haidong supported him, he could become famous; if he ended up blacklisted by him, he would see no hope for tomorrow.
“Haidong, please calm down. I’ll get out of the car first,” Shen Yunqing said as he stood up to open the door. Heat rushed in, and he glanced back at Yin Haidong, his eyes filled with lingering affection. Finally, he sighed softly and left.
“Luojia, you heard me. We were just childhood friends. Our families stopped contacting each other because of my aunt’s matter long ago,” Shuichang explained to Fan Luojia.
Fan Luojia tilted his head away, pouting, his angry expression making Shuichang’s heart soften.
“Alright, alright, Haidong, can you give the little piggy a hug? Don’t be angry, okay?”
Fan Luojia retorted, “Don’t lie to me. Last time I heard Ling Yuting say the person you want to promote is Yunqing. If you two didn’t act ambiguously when you met, how would he get the wrong idea?”
Shuichang was speechless. Fan Luojia had hit the nail on the head, but those incidents happened before he came here, and that was a fact he could not change. Shuichang had to seek help from Ling Tuan.
Shuichang: Ling Tuan, what should I do now?
Ling Tuan: Just tell him you love him.
Shuichang: But that’s not right?!
Ling Tuan: You have to. It’s the only way to quell the anger; otherwise, be prepared for a breakup.
Shuichang hesitated: Is it really that serious?
Ling Tuan: Imagine your partner found someone else; would you say it’s serious or not?
Shuichang: Fine…
He sat beside Fan Luojia and gently turned his head around. Fan Luojia averted his eyes, refusing to look at him.
Shuichang, unfazed, pressed a kiss on Fan Luojia’s cheek and said, “Right now, in my heart, only Luojia is special. My body and mind have never betrayed you. Don’t be upset; Haidong will be heartbroken if you get too angry.”
Fan Luojia wrapped his arms tightly around him, muffledly saying, “Haidong, you’re all I have.”
“Don’t worry, Haidong is yours alone.”
Shuichang: Didn’t say I love him, but all’s well.
Ling Tuan: Hah, men. Just don’t regret it.
After Shen Yunqing’s incident passed, Shuichang and Fan Luojia enjoyed each other’s company for two days before Shuichang returned to the company.
In September, ‘A Long Song’ wrapped up filming.
When Fan Luojia returned, he had lost quite a bit of weight, and Shuichang felt heartbroken. He took him out for meals every day, changing the menu each time.
By the time Fan Luojia regained his previous look to film again, the editing for ‘A Long Song’ was complete, and it was set to air on the national third channel prime time in a week.
The manager allocated to Fan Luojia by Yuejiao Entertainment was Song Tang. Though he appeared simple-minded, he was incredibly shrewd.
During the promotional period for ‘A Long Song’, he frequently helped Fan Luojia trend on social media. Even before the drama aired, Fan Luojia had already amassed a large fanbase, all thanks to Song Tang.
The premiere of ‘A Long Song’ broke three million in viewership ratings, and Fan Luojia’s acting received high praise. Taking advantage of the momentum, Song Tang helped him land a role in a movie, albeit it was a low-budget film, the director was not to be underestimated.
The movie was called ‘The Direction the Wind Blows,’ a small-budget art film. The director, Zu Fangxin, had some international fame, with his films nominated for international awards multiple times, though he had always fallen short. Nonetheless, his name carried weight.
This time, he aimed for an award with this art film.
In casting, Zu Fangxin preferred new faces. Although Fan Luojia was also a newcomer, he was starring in the currently popular ‘A Long Song,’ and his face was recognized by the audience. Zu Fangxin was direct in his rejection.
Shuichang recalled the script he had suppressed. In the original plot, Shen Yunqing had used this script to step onto the international stage, being hailed as a “star of tomorrow” by the media.
“Director, you know Director Li from ‘A Long Song,’ right? Don’t worry; you will definitely stand at the top of the entertainment industry. We brothers will fight together.”
“Brothers?” Fan Luojia exclaimed as he leaned against Yin Haidong, “Honey, are you mistaken? Am I your brother?”
