Yahiburn had no idea about the indecent thoughts swirling in Shuichang’s mind. He lifted the tray in his hand, saying, “We’ve already finished dinner in the dining hall, so I brought you some.”
Shuichang replied, “I’ll just take it.” He took the tray and walked back side by side with Yahiburn.
“Yah, has Mayor Alje told us when we’ll head to the outskirts?”
Yahiburn said, “No need to rush, it’s only seven-thirty. We can leave at eight. Take your time eating.”
Shuichang nodded and casually stuffed a few bites of food into his mouth.
What he was most concerned about was how many people Yahiburn could treat in a day and when the last boy would appear.
After finishing their meal, Shuichang waited a moment before heading out with Yahiburn. Alje was waiting outside, next to a carriage. As he saw them coming out, Alje approached and said, “Your Highness, the Knight, the outskirts are a bit far, so let’s take the carriage. It’ll be quicker.”
Alje took the reins. The small carriage was dimly lit and only had Shuichang and Yahiburn inside.
Yahiburn sat opposite Shuichang, his golden hair cascading down, and his light blue eyes exuding an air of innocence that was both noble and untouchable.
Seeing him like this made Shuichang’s heart race. He couldn’t help but tease, “Yah, did you sleep well last night?”
Yahiburn nodded, his gaze caught by Austin’s hawk-like eyes, which were fixed intensely on him, exuding a strong sense of pressure. “I wanted to wait for you to return before sleeping,” he admitted, “but I waited and waited, and since you didn’t come back, I fell asleep by myself.”
Shuichang was embarrassed, “It was really comfortable soaking in the bathtub; I couldn’t resist staying in a bit longer. When I got back, your hair was still wet, so I used my aura to dry it.” He reached out and touched the strands of hair that were hanging down.
Although Yahiburn couldn’t actually feel Austin’s touch, he still felt a shiver down his spine, his ears discreetly turning red as he wondered when he became so sensitive.
They chatted along the way, and Yahiburn felt flustered by Shuichang’s teasing. He didn’t think Shuichang was doing it on purpose; rather, he felt he was too sensitive. Austin was his guardian knight, and such harmless touches were normal. He had to learn to get used to it.
After picking up Ansel, the cramped carriage felt even tighter. Shuichang let Yahiburn sit next to him, and he wrapped his right arm around Yahiburn’s back to steady him and prevent him from bumping into anything.
As the carriage rolled over the uneven dirt path, Ansel looked at the two with envy and said, “Your Highness, Knight Austin is truly a thoughtful man.”
Yahiburn turned to look at Austin, only to find his deep eyes still focused on him. “Austin is indeed very good.”
Yahiburn was no stranger to being cared for wholeheartedly; as the Saint Son, he had received love from many since childhood, and everyone close to him was devoted.
But Austin was different.
His gaze didn’t carry admiration or longing; it was simply pure kindness, stemming genuinely from his affection for Yahiburn.
Ansel started introducing the scenery of Kane Town, “Kane Town is very close to the Sunset Mountains, and there aren’t many trees around. Therefore, our houses are built from stone blocks polished to a tidy shape, and the tributaries of the Ganges River flow into a lake that’s the most beautiful feature of Kane Town, called the Vambor Lake.”
“Is Vambor Lake the only drinking water source for the town?” Shuichang suddenly asked.
Ansel looked at him in surprise, not expecting the cold knight to speak to him. “No, Vambor Lake is only the drinking source for the residents on the east side. There are wells in all other directions, which draw water from underground.”
Shuichang nodded, “Thank you.” He closed his eyes to rest and said no more.
On the continent of Hughes, in addition to mages and knights, there was also a significant force at play.
The potions crafted by alchemists could heal or be transformed into poisons that harm.
Since the current witch disease had nothing to do with the dark mages of the dark empire, the source of the infection was likely a potion.
Someone must have purchased potions that mimic the dark magic from an alchemist, giving them to the residents, then framing the dark empire to incite conflict between the other four nations and the dark empire…
Shuichang reasoned that someone might have poisoned the water, and the residents, not paying attention while drinking, would easily become infected.
That’s why he inquired about the water source of Kane Town.
Afterward, Ansel didn’t speak again, and the carriage fell silent. Only the sound of wooden wheels rolling over the gravel road could be heard.
About half an hour later, the carriage stopped, and Alje pulled back the curtain, saying, “There’s a short stretch of road where the carriage can’t go. Let’s get out and walk.”
Shuichang let Ansel descend first before following suit. He turned, lifted the curtain, and extended his arm for Yahiburn to hold onto.
Under the gazes of the three, Yahiburn felt pressured. He gently placed his hand on the knight’s strong arm. Just as he was about to step down, Austin curved his arm, forcefully wrapping it around Yahiburn’s slender waist, lifting him down with one hand.
Yahiburn was momentarily stunned; it only registered when his feet touched the ground that his guardian knight Austin had just done something—he had actually hugged him in front of the mayor and Ansel!
Yahiburn’s face turned crimson. He tried hard to ignore the stares and looked ahead, coldly and nobly stating, “Let’s hurry up.”
Unfortunately, his trembling voice betrayed his inner turmoil.
Alje was taken aback; he never expected anyone would dare to hug the Saint Son, who was the son of the God of Light. Alje cast admiring glances towards the knight.
Only Ansel remained unfazed, as if he hadn’t seen anything, standing beside Yahiburn and saying, “Uncle, please guide us; which direction should we go?”
“Ah, follow me.” Alje moved ahead to lead the way.
Shuichang stood behind Yahiburn, his wide white robe obscuring Yahiburn’s good figure. Shuichang rubbed his fingers together; even through the fabric, the sensation was exquisite. He couldn’t imagine how wonderful it would feel to touch that waist directly.
Shuichang’s eyes deepened.
They crossed a small stream and walked for about five minutes, finally spotting several hundred people affected by the witch disease.
