“What else can you do?” He was too busy fighting the corrupted beasts to care about others’ lives or deaths.
Yarlin’s face flushed with excitement, “Boss, I didn’t expect you to have so much confidence in me! Don’t worry, I won’t let the corrupted beasts harm a single hair on them.” The boss was so good to him! He really hadn’t followed the wrong person.
Who knows if it was because of the rumors that accompanying Adonis into the Dark Forest would be a one-way trip; not a single one of the thirteen student IDs pressed down here at Shuichang was redeemed.
Shuichang didn’t mind; a small student ID didn’t take up much space in his storage ring.
Every day, Shuichang took Yarlin into the Dark Forest, quickly accumulating five hundred beast teeth. He thought that was enough and decided to start preparing for the final exams.
Shuichang did well in his practical classes but had never memorized the theory, so he could only cram at the last minute, studying day and night.
Anqiluo gently touched Shuichang’s cheek, “You’ve lost weight.”
Shuichang replied, “In order not to fail a grade, I have to study hard.”
He held Anqiluo’s hand, wrapping it in his palm. “I hope that in the future, when people know you’re my boyfriend, they’ll only envy us and won’t question why you chose me. I will stand at the same height as you, and memorizing some books now is nothing.”
Anqiluo’s heart raced. Shuichang’s serious expression lingered in his mind. He knew Adonis wouldn’t let him down; he was such a perfect male.
“Adonis, let me help you review. This way, we’ll be much more efficient.” Anqiluo suggested, starting to highlight important points for Shuichang. “You don’t need to memorize every single sentence; just remember the key points. You can think about them when answering the big questions.”
As expected of a top student, despite their majors being completely different, Anqiluo easily organized a book of key points, “If you memorize all of this, you’ll definitely get an A in the finals.” He was very confident in the information he compiled.
With less than a week until the finals, Anqiluo had dedicated all his attention to helping Adonis study, neglecting himself. Shuichang worried, “How’s your study of the Potion Plants Guide going? Don’t fail because of me.”
Anqiluo smiled shyly, “I’m fine. I memorized the entire Potion Plants Guide last year; I can recite the characteristics and efficacy of all fifteen thousand seven hundred twenty-one plants.”
Shuichang: “…” Suddenly, he felt a lot of pressure.
Female orc students could go home as soon as they finished all their courses, while the male orcs had to retest their star rankings.
The star rating combined their physical fitness and combat skills. The original Adonis was quite weak in combat, with an overall star rating of only three. Now that Shuichang was here, he certainly wouldn’t have a low star ranking.
Anqiluo decided to stay on campus to support Adonis.
He was the only female orc left in the entire school; fearing something might happen to him, Shuichang smuggled him into his dormitory, and they spent every day together.
There were a total of nine grades in the Orc Academy, and the testing levels ranged from low to high, half a day for each grade. Shuichang, a fifth-year student, was to begin his star ranking tests on the morning of the third day.
On the day of the test, Shuichang and Anqiluo held hands as they walked to the testing grounds. The spacious area had nine cages, each containing a different corrupted beast, ranked from high to low in combat power. Each participant had to choose one corrupted beast to challenge, judged by five teachers observing the battle.
Yarlin saw Shuichang and Anqiluo and quickly walked over, calling out, “Boss, sister-in-law.” Although Anqiluo was a year below them, since he was Adonis’s boyfriend, the boss’s wife naturally warranted the title of sister-in-law.
Anqiluo, blushing, nodded, “Which position are you in, Yarlin?”
Yarlin replied, “I’m last, in fiftieth place. What about the boss?”
Shuichang answered nonchalantly, “First.”
“Whoa! With you setting the standard, it’ll be tough for anyone else to show off. Let’s have a moment of silence for them.”
Anqiluo curiously asked, “Is Adonis really that strong?” He hadn’t actually seen Adonis fight a corrupted beast yet.
Yarlin said mysteriously, “Sister-in-law, you’ll find out soon enough. The boss is not just strong; he’s someone you’d want to kneel and call ‘big boss’!”
Hearing Yarlin praise Adonis made Anqiluo extremely happy, even more so than if someone called him a top student. The teacher announced the start of the test and called Adonis to the stage.
Anqiluo gave Shuichang a hug, “I believe in you, go for it!”
His little fist clenched like that melted Shuichang’s heart. He kissed Anqiluo’s sparkling blue eyes, “From now on, many people will call you sister-in-law, so you can’t blush so easily.”
After saying that, Shuichang let go of Anqiluo and walked slowly onto the stage.
The five teachers, having reviewed Adonis’s past physical fitness and combat skills, a bespectacled male orc teacher said, “Adonis O’Brien, based on your results last year, we recommend you to challenge a level two corrupted beast.”
Shuichang stood his ground, “Teachers, I want to challenge a level nine corrupted beast.”
This statement caused an uproar in the audience.
“Who does he think he is, challenging a level nine corrupted beast? Don’t die out there.”
“Hmm… Worthy of praise for bravery; I wouldn’t dare in his place. I value my life.”
“Is he trying to get famous or something?”
Doubts echoed through the crowd, and after a surprised glance exchanged among the five teachers, one said, “Student, you need to know that the explosive power and attack techniques of a level nine corrupted beast are extremely strong. It’s quite possible that we teachers can’t save you in time during the contest… You must think this through.”
Shuichang’s expression remained calm, “Teachers, I am very clear about my decision; you don’t need to worry.”
Every male orc was seen as the future of the orc planet, and the teachers didn’t want to take on the risk of an accident. They persuaded him, “How about starting from a level five challenge? If you defeat the level five corrupted beast, then consider moving up to the level nine.”
Shuichang gently shook his head in refusal, “Teachers, life and death are destined. Even if I don’t get injured, if I should lose my life because of this, I don’t need you to take responsibility. This choice is mine, and the students here can all testify to that.”
