“Just happens to be on my way, let’s go together.”
The two walked silently toward the basement, one in front of the other.
“Drinking and driving?” Ye Qiu raised his eyebrows as he looked at Cen Chen, who was sitting in the car.
He had made a fool of himself in front of this person all day, and now being lectured felt a bit awkward—he had just taken a few sips and forgotten.
It was all because they came out too late, and he forgot about the driver situation.
The two stood by the roadside like fools, waiting for a taxi while the cold wind blew around them. In the nighttime city, a few people passed by, but there were hardly any taxis.
“If you don’t mind, I can give you a ride home?”
“Um… I don’t mind.”
Cen Chen hesitated. It was the first time he would be in a stranger’s car, twisting his phone in nervousness.
“It’s fine; I can send you the license plate number.” Ye Qiu took the phone from Cen Chen’s hand and snapped a picture of his own car.
Meeting for the first time, they shouldn’t rush into things.
Cen Chen was considering this, but now being pointed out by Ye Qiu made him blush. This person had just helped him with such a big favor, yet here he was, doubting him.
“Ye Qiu.”
“Cen Chen.”
After the introductions in the car, they returned to a quiet mood.
Ye Qiu paused as he fastened his seatbelt.
Cen Chen felt a strange sensation as Ye Qiu moved closer; it felt oddly similar to how He Yebai advised him on chatting up girls. The ease with which Ye Qiu spoke made him suspect that it might be the same with those girls. It was an unpleasant feeling.
“Click.”
“Click.”
With two crisp sounds,
“Your seatbelt is on wrong.”
“Ah, oh.”
Cen Chen, initially staring blankly ahead, turned his gaze toward the safety buckle after hearing Ye Qiu’s words. How could he be so foolish and clip his seatbelt onto the wrong one?
By the time they got home, it was already late. Ye Qiu wouldn’t log onto the game at this hour, so he logged into his streaming account to distribute the edited videos from before.
Cen Chen lay on his bed, somewhat absentminded. A special notification sound from his phone rang; it was Cong Shan Cong Yu’s latest update.
After following Cong Shan Cong Yu, Cen Chen discovered that he only streamed for two hours at night. He had a special account that always blurred out faces when releasing teaching videos, leading netizens to comically speculate that he was afraid his girlfriend would recognize her friends.
Yet, he had to admit that his skills were quite impressive. Sometimes, using fan accounts, he could go through dungeons effortlessly and often took his secondary account to carry him and Wan Fengye Chou through levels. Perhaps they knew each other.
After dozing off, he woke up at dawn. Grabbing his phone and reading the messages, he initially thought he was still half-asleep.
Why did He Yebai send so many messages?
At midnight, He Yebai: Is this car yours? I don’t think I’ve seen it before. Is it new? It doesn’t seem like your style?
At 2 AM, He Yebai: Why didn’t you drive your car away?
At 2:10 AM, He Yebai: You didn’t get kidnapped, did you?!
He Yebai: Don’t be afraid; I’ve already called the police!
……
“Hello?”
“Finally, you answered! How much do I need to pay?”
Cen Chen couldn’t help but laugh, “Are you going to send me money???”
“Cen Cen, it’s you! I thought I lost you and was scared to death! Where are you…”
“I’m at home; you can come.”
Before Cen Chen could say more, the call was disconnected.
“So you mean you returned home yesterday and just slept until now?”
He Yebai, with his messy hair, was almost moved to tears, “Thank goodness it was just a false alarm! How would I explain that to my ancestors?”
Then he angrily asked, “Why didn’t you answer my calls?!!!”
“Ahem, my phone ran out of battery.” Cen Chen felt a twinge of embarrassment—he hadn’t sent any pictures yesterday. Remembering that his phone had half a charge the night before and had turned off as he woke up, he realized he must have mistakenly clicked something while watching videos until late.
Looking up again, He Yebai had already fallen asleep on the couch, so Cen Chen covered him with a blanket.
Having gone through such an event, he had no mood to go to the company and decided to play a game instead. He was startled when he saw an invitation from Wan Fengye Chou.
This supposed romantic partner usually just took him on dungeon runs, even insisting he take photos. Cen Chen stared at the notification and clicked it.
Under the Three Lives Tree, pink petals fell like rain.
“The upgrade lock is unlocked.”
Cen Chen: ……
This was a bit unexpected, but somehow not surprising.
This time, the romantic quest required the two to find specific locations based on keywords and take pictures.
“You can’t even find this; how dumb.”
“Look at how much better my photo is than yours.”
Cen Chen stared in disbelief at the image on the screen, showing them posing like lumbering birds, his heart sank. How could this look good?
Yuan Gu Shan: Do you… really think it looks good?
“Of course! If you don’t believe me, I’ll show it to others!”
The certainty in their tone made Cen Chen question himself.
Listening through his headset, the voice from yesterday resonated in his mind.
With a bit of electronic distortion, it sounded slightly different, but Cen Chen didn’t think much of it; perhaps those with good voices just had similar tones.
【System: A thousand miles of fate are connected by a single thread. Congratulations, hero Wan Fengye Chou and hero Yuan Gu Shan, for tying the knot! The bronze lock has upgraded to silver, and a long journey awaits you.】
[Guild] Wan Fengye Chou: Wan Fengye Chou shared their status; come take a look!
[Guild] Wan Fengye Chou: I took a picture that is perfect in both composition and meaning! I challenge you; everyone, vote, press 1 if you think it looks good, and if not, go to the queue!
[Guild] Xiaoyao Town Spicy Soup: 11111 I’ve never seen such a novel composition!
[Guild] Heartfelt Ieker: 1111 The master’s photography skills are impressive too!
[Guild] Liang Zai: Not daring to say it, huh? I’ll say it, 111111 it looks good!
Cen Chen pondered: Is it my vision that’s the problem, or are these people just offering empty praises…
The guild’s likes quickly pushed this grand bird-spreading picture to the hot topics.
