Ji Chen was accepted into the best university in the capital city!
The first admission notice sparked excitement, and one by one, nine students received their acceptance letters. Considering that there were only twenty students from Liu Town, that meant nearly half came from Liu Ye Village!
Those who spent every day studying with Ji Chen also received their notices, and several young intellectuals exchanged excited looks.
The village chief beamed as he loudly read the contents of the acceptance letter.
“Ji Chen, you have been admitted to… report to our school… Capital City University!”
Li Hui felt a pang of unease in her heart as she saw everyone receiving their acceptance letters.
It can’t be without me!
All of this was Ji Chen’s fault; he didn’t let her see his study materials or notes, completely forgetting that they had studied together at the youth base. She pretended to be dignified and stubbornly refused to look at Lee Cheon’s notes.
The village chief, feeling a bit tipsy with joy, didn’t forget to console those who didn’t pass. “Comrades who didn’t pass, don’t worry! The college entrance exam has been reinstated. Even if you didn’t get in this year, as long as we work hard, we can still get in next year or the year after!”
The other girls living with her were happy about their college admissions but couldn’t help feeling cold inside when they turned and saw Li Hui’s distorted expression. They pulled Ji Chen away to whisper in a corner.
Li Hui heard the village chief’s words and scoffed to herself, expressionless as she stared at the sticky-faced interaction between Ji Chen and Ye Qiu, a thought surged within her.
Li Hui had been exceptionally compliant these past few days, helping those who got into college pack their things and being overly attentive.
“We’ve lived together for so long; I’m happy to see you all getting into college. Suddenly, life feels hopeful.”
“I’m not being overly nice for no reason; can I borrow your notes? I believe that with your notes, I can definitely get into college just like you next year!”
Zhou Yan was happy to see Li Hui’s despondent expression and comforted her by saying it was good to think that way while handing her notes to Li Hui.
“I used to think wrong; luckily, everyone isn’t petty and chose to forgive me. You are all truly wonderful people.”
“I’ve realized that I’ll likely be in the village for a long time. I will definitely hold on to my original intentions this time.”
“It’s great that you can think this way! I believe you will surely get in next year!”
Li Hui looked at Zhou Yan, relieved, and smiled back.
The others noticed the two talking, recalling how Li Hui’s previous actions had left a deep impression, and felt a bit embarrassed, realizing they weren’t as good as Li Hui portrayed.
Seeing others return to a more favourable attitude towards her, Li Hui wore a more benign smile, appearing to have let go of past grievances.
“Creeeak~”
A sneaky figure entered the empty room.
[Host, Li Hui is sneaking around, searching the room while no one is around.]
[She is looking for the admission letter; I heard it!]
Ye Qiu stood up; she couldn’t just watch Li Hui sabotage other people’s futures.
With 5.7 million candidates across the country, the final number of accepted students would not exceed 300,000, making for a 5% acceptance rate. Liu Ye Village had 9 successful candidates out of less than 20 who applied, and the village chief had garnered quite the spotlight during the meeting.
This was extraordinary; a whole half of the town’s university students came from one village!
Especially since Ji Chen had been admitted to the best university in the capital, he was truly bringing glory to the village!
The village chief beamed at the sudden visitor, Ye Qiu.
Oh, and there’s Ye Qiu too—two talented individuals emerged from their village!
The village now had its first private factory and boasted the most university students in the area.
What a peak in life!
Clearing his throat twice, the village chief pretended to be serious, “Ye Qiu, what brings you here?”
“It’s a momentous occasion for so many from the village to get accepted into university; we must commemorate it. I’ve invited a photographer!”
“A photo? That’s great!”
Photographs are wonderful!
He envisioned the future where he could show off the photos in his office, his eyes glinting with excitement.
Young people always have such inventive ideas; how had he not thought of taking pictures?
“Comrade Ye Qiu is here for all of you.”
Seeing the village chief so engaged brought a knowing smile to their faces.
“Comrade Ye Qiu asks you to gather with your acceptance letters—female comrades wear your prettiest dresses, and male comrades tidy yourselves up because these photos will hang in the village!”
“Hey, what about that flower hair tie?”
“Which dress looks better on me?”
The young intellectuals happily dashed back to their rooms upon hearing this; taking photos was a big deal.
“Ahhhhh!”
“There’s a ghost… Li Hui…”
Everyone was drawn in by the piercing scream and rushed to the dim room to find Li Hui surrounded by a mess of overturned items.
“Li Hui, what are you doing?”
Li Hui looked at the crowd appearing suddenly, panic-stricken.
How could it be? Didn’t they all go out?
“It’s not what you think! I just wanted to see what the acceptance letter looks like.”
“I already fixed everything, and I still want to take the college entrance exam next year.”
Li Hui looked at the village chief’s sombre face, desperately explaining that this was completely different from what she had imagined.
She had nearly perfected Zhou Yan’s handwriting; as long as she obtained the acceptance letter, college would be hers. Everything had been arranged so why had she been discovered?
She was definitely supposed to go to college!
She just wanted it too badly!
Why was she so unlucky to be caught?
Li Hui took a step back, her peripheral vision catching a familiar envelope.
An envelope? Ji Chen’s acceptance letter!
Yes, that’s the envelope—she had watched him put it in!
Since she couldn’t go to college, then neither could Ji Chen!
Looking at everyone’s astonished expressions,
Li Hui laughed crazily, “Hahaha, now that you’ve all discovered me, I have nothing to fear! If I can’t go to college, then Ji Chen, you can’t go either!”
