Gu Chen, who was just about to go to bed, suddenly noticed the surveillance camera in the corner. He threw the milk aside and decided to check the footage to see if he could find any clues. As he watched the video on his phone, he was momentarily confused—why did Jian Lexin go to Ye Qiu’s room when she had her own room in the Gu house?
The timing suggested that Jian Lexin had come up to change her clothes after accidentally getting her outfit wet. Gu Chen’s first reaction was disbelief; she wouldn’t be exchanging Ye Qiu’s clothes, would she? His toes involuntarily curled up—this situation was incredibly embarrassing. He squinted his eyes, afraid to see what he shouldn’t. Fortunately, Jian Lexin was only reaching into her clothes feeling around and wasn’t actually doing anything overtly strange.
Jian Lexin’s steps suddenly stopped in front of a wall, and Gu Chen knew that wall was filled with the medications Ye Qiu made him take. Gu Chen picked up the medicine bottle that Gu Bo had specifically left behind and compared it to the one shown in the video—it was identical.
He continued watching with growing concern; Jian Lexin had swapped out the medication that Ye Qiu had previously given him! The medications on the wall were mostly locked in a glass cupboard, with only a few bottles left outside. Jian Lexin was stealthily replacing the accessible medications one by one. Not only that, but she was also searching for something near the bed in the master bedroom. However, Ye Qiu was usually very disciplined and did not leave things lying around on the bed. She put the medicines back in their original spots and then left.
It appeared Jian Lexin mistook Ye Qiu’s room for her own. Technically, she wasn’t completely wrong; Ye Qiu was indeed staying in the same master bedroom where he had formerly lived. But now, Gu Chen had returned and shared the room with Ye Qiu. Was Jian Lexin trying to harm herself?
Gu Chen gripped the medicine bottle, rendered speechless. He wasn’t naive; seeing Jian Lexin intentionally switch out his medication made it clear what she intended to do. For the first time, Gu Chen felt a visceral understanding of someone’s malice.
At that moment, footsteps reverberated outside the door. In a flurry, Gu Chen closed the video and accidentally knocked over the milk on the side. Ye Qiu knocked on the door, and upon hearing the commotion, walked in to find Gu Chen in a state of panic. Following Gu Chen’s gaze, Ye Qiu noticed the video on the phone that hadn’t yet been turned off, showing Jian Lexin standing at the familiar master bedroom door, ready to leave.
Before Ye Qiu could speak, Gu Chen stammered, “Jian Lexin, she… she went into the room and switched my medication.” Realizing he had actually asked Ye Qiu for help, Gu Chen bit his lip, holding no hope.
Ye Qiu, under Gu Chen’s watchful gaze, took the medication and spoke softly to him, “Don’t worry, I will make sure she pays for this.” Gu Chen felt slightly relieved as Ye Qiu’s comforting words seeped through his nervousness. “Get some sleep. Tomorrow morning, everything will be fine.”
Ye Qiu turned off the lights in the room, leaving only a dim nightlight. Gu Chen, still feeling anxious, eventually drifted off to sleep with Ye Qiu’s quiet murmurs.
The next morning, Jian Lexin woke up to find several policemen waiting for her. Clueless, she looked at Gu Chen sitting next to the police, and an absurd thought popped into her head. Could it be that Gu Chen was so shaken by the medication swap that he quickly called the police to bring Ye Qiu to justice? That would be exceedingly naive; how could someone be prosecuted over such tenuous evidence? Fortunately, she still had many resources at her disposal.
“What’s going on? Why are the police here so early?” Jian Lexin exaggeratedly inquired.
“Chenchen suddenly said his medication seemed to have been switched, so we called the police,” Ye Qiu hinted.
Jian Lexin laughed, “Who could be so heartless to switch a patient’s medication? We should investigate this thoroughly.”
The police simply asked about the relationships among the three and called upon everyone who worked in the villa for questioning. There were a significant number of people who had access to the medications, and when the bottles were taken for examination, the police were naturally troubled.
Ye Qiu asked Gu Bo to bring out a computer, and with Gu Chen’s help, they retrieved the surveillance footage. Jian Lexin, preparing to watch the unfolding drama, couldn’t help but smirk coldly in her heart, thinking: Let’s see how relaxed you can all be a little later.
“Officer, I suddenly remembered that due to my partner’s illness, we had installed surveillance at home, which might provide some clues.” Jian Lexin felt a twinge of panic but still hoped no one would have installed cameras in the bedroom, right?
In the next second, the police, crowded around the computer watching the footage, praised, “You have cameras even in the bedroom? You all truly have foresight!”
Jian Lexin suddenly intruded into the crowd, unaware that her frantic movements had sparked the police’s suspicion. As the footage clearly displayed her entering the master bedroom, just before it showed her switching the medication, she rushed forward in a desperate attempt to destroy the evidence, only to be restrained by the police who had been prepared.
Now unable to struggle, Jian Lexin watched helplessly as her own criminal acts unfolded on the video. “The surveillance is fake; I didn’t do this!”
Little did she expect someone would place cameras in the bedroom—wasn’t that a twisted form of marital intimacy? This was beyond perverse!
“I did change the medication, but I had no intention of harming anyone! All these medicines are beneficial to health!”
Standing behind Ye Qiu, Gu Chen observed Jian Lexin’s fury upon being caught, realizing that someone truly intended to harm others without cause. Ye Qiu patted his back in comfort, and Gu Chen lifted his head, a sudden sense of relief washing over him—Ye Qiu was the person he should have trusted.
Since waking up, Ye Qiu had been the one taking care of everything for him. Perhaps the memory loss he experienced was due to Jian Lexin’s medications causing mental issues. He had wrongly seen this deceptive devil as a source of salvation.
The group later accompanied the police to draft a statement, and at that moment, the results of the medication tests came in. Just as Gu Chen had suspected, the medications Jian Lexin had replaced were not only harmful to the nervous system but could also cause agitation and mental instability if consumed in excess.
