A special skill…
“Why does that sound so familiar?”
Several nurses’ gazes drifted lazily towards the doorway.
At the entrance stood Miao Xing, her face pale after hearing that He Xuezhu didn’t even possess a single special skill.
The most embarrassing part for Miao Xing was that Lin Shiheng, who had uttered that line, didn’t even spare her a glance. Meanwhile, He Xuezhu, whom he cared for, seemed completely oblivious to her presence.
How could she not notice? It was merely a ploy to make her feel uncomfortable.
Miao Xing clenched her fists, forcing her expression to normalize. She absolutely would not show weakness in front of others, absolutely not.
She straightened her back and was about to confidently approach Lin Shiheng to greet him when she saw the handsome man in military uniform gently encircling his wife’s shoulder, slightly lowering his head to take her hand and examine it. His voice was filled with concern: “Why is your hand so red? Did you push yourself too hard earlier? Come, let’s go to the room; I’ll get you some warm water to soak your hands.”
He Xuezhu hadn’t even noticed her hand was red until she heard him speak. She obediently nodded and, after exchanging smiles with the nurses, left with her husband.
Throughout the ordeal, she didn’t notice that someone was watching her from by the door.
Miao Xing, who had just started to step forward, froze on the spot.
Someone had lightly slapped her face but didn’t even acknowledge her existence. To her, there was nothing more humiliating than this.
Especially now, she could still hear the crisp and envious voices of the nurses around her.
“Captain Lin is so kind to his wife! His voice is so gentle, and the way he looks at her is filled with affection.”
“If I were him, I would be gentle too! She can heal, has a good temperament, and is so beautiful. If I were a man, I would spoil such a wife.”
“Exactly! Not like some people who act all high and mighty just because their husband has a good title…”
The head nurse, returning with Dr. Wang, heard the young nurses gossiping and looked at Miao Xing, now barely able to contain her anger.
“You girls should use your time wisely and go check on the patients instead.”
Once the nurses left, Miao Xing still wore a resentful expression, her heart heavy. Deep down, she shook her head. It seemed unlikely that her stay at the hospital would be long.
In earlier times, Miao Xing, despite being somewhat aloof, hadn’t perceived anything wrong. But ever since marrying Vice Captain Zhang, her perception of others had become entirely skewed.
The head nurse, being a bit older, understood Miao Xing’s psyche. She had married a vice captain and felt superior because of it.
However, this was a hospital; regardless of her marriage to someone of a general’s caliber, her position in the hospital aligned with her capabilities. The more she tried to boss others around, the more people would look down on her.
The nurses who disliked Miao Xing were young and unable to conceal their feelings. Yet, those who truly harbored dissatisfaction were older, more skilled at masking their emotions.
Just like the head nurse herself.
If Miao Xing hadn’t made a mistake, it would have been one thing. Yet today, she had nearly injected potentially lethal air into a patient’s bloodstream and showed no remorse afterward. It was unlikely she would stay at the hospital for much longer.
Especially since others had witnessed her act of nearly causing harm when she attempted to administer air. Serious incidents like this were hard to keep under wraps.
When the time came, the only outcome left for Miao Xing would be dismissal.
With these thoughts, the head nurse called out, “Miao Xing, take the books from the drawer and study. Only put them down once you’ve memorized the essential guidelines for IV administration.”
One can only hope that when the higher-ups come to inspect, Miao Xing will be able to handle it.
However, being fired wasn’t an extraordinary loss for her. After all, she had a husband who was a vice captain.
Even if she could no longer stay at the hospital, her future wouldn’t be bleak.

“Captain, the dumplings your wife made are delicious.”
As Lin Shiheng and the others entered, the young soldier with an injured arm at the table had polished off every single dumpling they brought. Upon seeing their return, he chuckled and complimented them, asking curiously, “What happened outside?”
“A doctor fell ill.” Lin Shiheng said proudly, “Your sister-in-law saved him.”
“Sister-in-law can treat patients too?”
The young soldier’s face lit up with astonishment.
He Xuezhu felt uncomfortable under the gaze filled with admiration; she never thought of herself as that great.
Besides, she had merely stumbled upon the disease noted in the medical texts; it was just sheer luck, so how could anyone award her all the credit?
But before she could voice her thoughts, Lin Shiheng continued with his proud tone:
“Indeed! The medicinal liquor I had them bring to you was personally made by your sister-in-law. Every time my back aches, I apply it, and it’s always better by the next day.”
“That liquor was made by sister-in-law?”
The young soldier’s astonishment grew, “Wasn’t I recently injured in a fall? My back was bruised badly and hurt non-stop. Later, I asked Zhang and the others to help apply the medicinal liquor, and by the next day, the pain was gone.”
“Captain, your sister-in-law is amazing! You really are fortunate.”
“Indeed.”
As the three talked, the ward door suddenly swung open, and several similarly young soldiers walked in with laughter: “Liuzi, we came to see you…”
One glance at Lin Shiheng’s turned face made their smiles freeze, and they reflexively stood at attention in salute. “Good day, Captain Lin!”
“Yes, are you here to see Liuzi too? Come, have a seat.”
