Song Jin Shi was startled by the sudden appearance of several people.
He instinctively glanced towards the direction where Bo Yan An had left, seeking a sense of security.
But Bo Yan An had not returned yet; there was nothing there.
He took two steps back and shook his head.
“Sorry, I don’t need it.”
The group did not take Song Jin Shi’s words seriously.
They thought he was just being coy.
They had seen many like him at the base.
At first, they would refuse them, but once they recognized their strength, they would eagerly try to attach themselves.
For those at the base, if they were refused, they would just leave.
But the beauty in front of them was rare even before the apocalypse.
“Little beauty, big brothers just think it’s unsafe for you to be alone here. Those people are peeking at you; who knows when they might act?”
“If you join our team, we can guarantee your safety.”
Song Jin Shi couldn’t understand why they persisted despite his clear refusal.
He patiently rejected them again.
The leader of the group, a scar-faced man, grew sullen.
“Beauty, don’t make this harder for yourself. We’re here kindly inviting you into our group. If we grow impatient, our attitude won’t be so pleasant.”
With that, several of them closed in around Song Jin Shi.
Frightened, Song Jin Shi looked towards the crowd, his eyes pleading for help.
But those who had initially gathered to watch dispersed, ignoring his silent cries.
Seeing Song Jin Shi’s reaction, the scar-faced man sneered.
“Did you see that? No one is coming to save you. They’re all afraid of me. I won’t beat around the bush; if you come with us, and let us have our fun, you can have whatever you want.”
Inside, Song Jin Shi anxiously wished for Bo Yan An to return.
The scar-faced men had ulterior motives from the start, and seeing Song Jin Shi so terrified made them even more eager.
They were no longer interested in listening to Song Jin Shi’s objections; after all, he was just an ordinary person, and they could easily overpower him without anyone from the base daring to question them.
After all, they had contributed to the base’s development until now.
Although the base no longer existed.
The scar-faced man stepped forward, grabbing Song Jin Shi’s wrist and pulling him towards himself, restraining him as they headed toward their vehicle.
Song Jin Shi stumbled with the action.
Once he regained his bearings, he struggled violently.
“Let go of me! This is illegal!”
The scar-faced man showed no concern, continuing to drag him along.
“Illegal? In this apocalypse, you dare speak of legality? I am the law here!”
“Is that so?”
A skeptical voice rang out from a distance.
The scar-faced man turned toward the source of the voice.
“Who are you? If you have the guts, step forward! Hiding like a coward doesn’t make you a man!”
As his words fell, the crowd parted, leaving only a tall figure standing there.
The scar-faced man observed the man for a moment.
Once he sensed no supernatural powers emanating from him, he scoffed contemptuously, “I was wondering who it was; turns out, it’s just a powerless waste.”
“What? You think someone like you can heroically save the beauty?”
Ignoring the scar-faced man’s words, the tall man lightly frowned at the restrained Song Jin Shi.
“Come with me.”
The scar-faced man, feeling insulted as he was ignored, pushed Song Jin Shi closer to one of his subordinates.
“If you want to take him, fine. Let’s fight. If you win, he’s yours; if you lose—”
“You’ll kneel before me and shout three times that you are a waste!”
Song Jin Shi remained silent throughout this exchange.
At that moment, he felt himself trapped in a strange situation.
The suddenly appearing man gave him a feeling that was both familiar and frightening.
He sensed that this world was unreal, like he was outside of it.
A dull pain throbbed in his heart as if someone was searching for him; he could almost see a man in white kneeling before him, weeping over his corpse.
The scene before him began to blur, but he struggled to remain awake.
He saw the man agree to the scar-faced man’s challenge.
Then, his vision suddenly went black. When it brightened again, the scar-faced man lay bloodied on the ground.
His subordinates looked on in fear and urgency around him.
And the man who had just appeared stood in front of him.
“Have you had enough fun? It’s time to go back with me.”
