However, the reason that Huo Qijun understood for his unease was a far cry from the truth. He could only endure the discomfort in his heart and coldly warn, “I won’t interfere with who you associate with privately, but don’t let personal matters delay your work!”
“…I understand.” Yu Yu began to doubt whether Huo Qijun had picked up on something, why else would he use such ambiguous words as a warning?
But then he realized it didn’t add up; if there was truly suspicion, even without evidence, Huo Qijun could easily dismiss him and wouldn’t need to offer such vague advice.
Oh! Right!
Yu Yu suddenly remembered that Lin Wei had told him that Huo Qijun knew Lin Wei’s sexual orientation. Therefore, Lin Wei’s move to threaten him this morning likely made it seem to Huo Qijun that Lin Wei was interested in him.
Before Lin Wei had even had a chance to send flowers, Huo Qijun had already bought into it, which was safer for him.
He couldn’t help but lament how good Lin Wei was to Huo Qijun. Despite putting a lot of effort into him, he still wouldn’t let him know, all because he didn’t want Huo Qijun to experience the betrayal of someone he trusted for a nonsensical reason!
Yu Yu didn’t understand; he just couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous of Huo Qijun’s good fortune, he seemed to reap all the benefits. But right now, the most important thing for him was to protect himself.
Coming to this realization, Yu Yu regained his composure. “Rest assured, President Huo, I won’t delay work matters.”
After saying this, he exited without noticing Huo Qijun’s suddenly despondent expression as soon as his words fell.
“Tsk!” He threw his pen onto the table with a bang, irritably closing his eyes for a moment.
Just the thought of these two possibly developing some ambiguous relationship in the future, parading in front of him every day, and even Lin Wei picking people up from work, bringing Yu Yu to live next door to him, made Huo Qijun feel an impulse to move out immediately!
After a long time, Huo Qijun finally opened his eyes and picked up his phone to call Lin Wei.
“Hello, A Qi, what’s up?” Lin Wei picked up quickly.
Huo Qijun heard his gentle voice, and the pent-up frustration in his chest suddenly released, “Did you forget I came to the company in your car this morning? What am I supposed to do now that you just left?”
Is it illegal for the CEO to ask for a ride home in this world?
The thought crossed Lin Wei’s mind immediately, but he quickly realized it was laughable. Huo Qijun probably had a fuzzy understanding of what being illegal meant.
“The fridge at home just happens to be empty. I was going to have someone deliver food, but since I have to go out anyway, I’ll pick you up later and go to the supermarket. You can choose whatever you feel like eating, Young Master. How does that sound?”
Huo Qijun couldn’t help but smile slightly at the corner of his mouth.
“Okay!”
His mood finally shifted from cloudy to sunny, if only temporarily.
Chapter 19
Shopping at the supermarket really was nothing to look forward to, yet once Huo Qijun hung up and waited for work to end, his mind elsewhere, he truly experienced what it meant for time to pass like a year.
Lin Wei arrived reasonably on time, texting Huo Qijun to come downstairs as he got off work.
“Why are you waiting downstairs? Don’t you want to go up and say hello to my assistant?” Huo Qijun couldn’t help but make a snide remark as soon as he got in the car, feeling acutely aware of how petty it sounded.
Lin Wei glanced at him, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he continued to drive, calmly saying, “I will have plenty of chances to meet him. There’s no need to work so hard to find an opportunity.”
“…” Huo Qijun suspected that Lin Wei was mocking him for his past attempts at pursuing Fu Xiaoqing, but that had only been because Fu Xiaoqing didn’t want to deal with him due to his mother’s meddling, forcing him to find ways to make amends!
Before he could figure out how to respond, he suddenly realized Lin Wei’s words implied he was indeed admitting that Huo Qijun was interested in pursuing Yu Yu?!
Huo Qijun’s heart sank, and he opened his mouth to say something, but he found that none of his potential words felt right to express, and he immediately lost interest.
Lin Wei had already anticipated his reaction. Had Huo Qijun not been so unnecessarily sarcastic when getting in the car, Lin Wei wouldn’t have deliberately teased him with comments he knew Huo Qijun wouldn’t take well.
But once the teasing went on for too long, it lost its charm; otherwise, he’d end up having to cheer him up again during dinner if Huo Qijun sulked.
“I’m not the kind of person who forgets friends just because of looks. Right now, it’s more important for you to have timely meals. Instead of thinking of these unnecessary thoughts, why not consider what you want to eat tonight?”
“What are you good at cooking?” Huo Qijun’s expression lightened a little as he gave him a chance to respond.
“Almost anything, you can choose what you like.” Lin Wei thought back to whether the original storyline mentioned what Huo Qijun liked to eat, but he really couldn’t recall.
But to be honest, if Huo Qijun had a serious appetite, he wouldn’t be so absorbed in work that he forgot to eat, ultimately ending up with the typical CEO male lead’s stomach issues.
Although Lin Wei sometimes felt that Huo Qijun’s true personality was in a state of tenuous transition with the stereotype of a domineering president he presented, he could indeed intimidate people when coldly silent. Yet, the memory of him awkwardly munching on three days’ worth of biscuits in the office without going home was enough to make Lin Wei chuckle.
So many times, he was willing to comfort him, not because of necessary tasks; Huo Qijun indeed had some unexpectedly adorable traits that weren’t known to others.
While shopping in the supermarket, this aspect became even more apparent.
Huo Qijun looked like a cat, wanting to touch everything new that caught his eye. As they passed the fruit section, Lin Wei noticed him unable to resist poking at durians, which was funny given his formal attire. He chuckled and asked, “Do you like eating this?”
Huo Qijun hurriedly shook his head; he could not stand the smell.
“Then stop poking at it.” Lin Wei collected all the fruits he touched except for the durian, tossing them into the shopping cart regardless of whether they suffered any damage.
“You really are the person with the highest moral standards I’ve ever met in my life!” Huo Qijun pouted, feeling that he was being overly careful!
