In his heart, he couldn’t help but complain to the system: [What is going on? Isn’t he homophobic?]
The system replied honestly: [Master, is it possible that our assumption about Huo Qijun being homophobic is completely unfounded and not necessarily true?]
[……] Lin Wei felt enlightened; so why had they held such assumptions earlier?
Thoughts that were half-formed flashed through his mind, but before he could make sense of them, he was interrupted.
“Come on in, don’t block the doorway!” Huo Qijun, who didn’t enjoy being the center of attention, just wanted to sit down first.
Fang Yueyue was still reserved around someone she had just met. Once the three were seated, she extended her hand to Lin Wei, saying, “Hello, I’m Fang Yueyue, Huo Qijun’s friend. Although our meeting was forced by a boring blind date, you can rest assured that he really likes you! He told me he had a boyfriend right away!”
Her unsolicited comment left the two men speechless.
Huo Qijun felt that her words were laced with personal opinion—what does ‘really likes you’ even mean? It was just her imagination! However, when he opened his mouth, he realized it was hard to refute this because he had indeed lied first.
He could only quietly observe Lin Wei’s expression, and as luck would have it, their eyes met, Lin Wei’s gaze lingering thoughtfully. Huo Qijun quickly lowered his gaze, adjusting his glasses and pretending to organize some files he would need later, exaggeratedly clearing his throat a few times to cover his embarrassment.
Lin Wei had no way to counter Huo Qijun’s antics and merely shook Fang Yueyue’s hand lightly, smiling as he introduced himself: “I’m Lin Wei. Thank you for your explanation; I don’t mind.”
“Exactly! The moment I saw you, I felt you must have a great temperament and weren’t the type to anger Huo Qijun frequently!” Fang Yueyue felt more at ease in front of Lin Wei, warming up to him much quicker than she did with Huo Qijun.
“I anger him?” Lin Wei raised an eyebrow, indicating for Fang Yueyue to elaborate.
Fang Yueyue understood and nodded: “It was that day…”
“Hey!” Huo Qijun hurriedly interrupted, “Can you focus on what’s important?!”
“What’s the rush? The finance team and the lawyer haven’t arrived yet; what do we have to be busy with?” Fang Yueyue had long ceased to fear Huo Qijun’s cold demeanor and continued in a low voice to Lin Wei: “He was angry that day during the blind date. When I asked who upset him, he said it was his boyfriend. So did you actually argue because of the blind date?”
“…… No.” Lin Wei smiled and denied it. “With his temperament, he might get angry over something as trivial as a crooked weed on the roadside. Anyway, I didn’t upset him.”
“I agree!” Fang Yueyue nodded vigorously at first but then added quietly, “But it could be that you not paying attention to him is why he got upset!”
Unintentionally, she hit the nail on the head.
Of course, Huo Qijun would never admit to that, keeping his coldest expression while saying something childish: “At that time, I asked him to go over, and he refused. If it were you, would you not be angry?”
Fang Yueyue laughed, covering her mouth. She didn’t even want to point out that she would never make such an unreasonable request by having her boyfriend interfere with her blind date, especially with elders present. What kind of thinking was that?!
It turns out only a gentle and indulgent boyfriend could handle Huo Qijun’s capricious and unreasonable nature.
[If I didn’t know the background story, I would almost suspect that the Master has been secretly pursuing the male lead!] The observing system was filled with doubt.
Lin Wei also found the scene absurd, making it seem as if Huo Qijun truly was his boyfriend!
Thankfully, Assistant Yu, along with the arriving finance team and lawyer, quickly broke this brief illusion. Upon seeing the undercover Mr. Yu again, Lin Wei’s mind returned to business.
[I need to check for evidence linked between Assistant Yu and Old Madam Huo; I’ll need it soon.] Lin Wei thought as he strategized.
Transferring stock rights was already hard to keep under wraps, but with the pieces of information Lin Wei and Fang Yueyue had, it was unlikely that Old Madam Huo could retaliate. So, since the matter was settled, there was no need to hide anything anymore. After all, Huo Qijun’s intention to ‘rebel’ had long been clear when he had switched out everyone around him.
As for the fact that Assistant Yu was a mole, after much contemplation, he decided to keep it to himself. It was risky now to inform Huo Qijun, who needed to understand that being betrayed by someone trusted carried significant consequences. No matter how obedient he appeared before Lin Wei, in the original story, he was no saint.
The system obediently went to gather evidence, while Lin Wei and Fang Yueyue collaborated on the transfer of stock rights.
After they finished, Fang Yueyue said she had plans with her best friend and would leave. Lin Wei suggested that Huo Qijun focus on his work while he took a stroll and promised to come back for lunch together.
Huo Qijun didn’t know Lin Wei had other intentions and thought that today’s events made Lin Wei feel uncomfortable.
In truth, he couldn’t explain why he felt the need to handle both matters simultaneously; he could have easily arranged them separately without much effort. Yet he was inexplicably driven to see Lin Wei meet Fang Yueyue and predict what kind of conversation might arise. He didn’t even need to think hard about it, yet he couldn’t resist.
In reality, Lin Wei’s attention was on Assistant Yu, and he didn’t care much for these trivial matters. Furthermore, he had long been aware of Huo Qijun’s temper and had grown accustomed to it.
“By the way, I’ve temporarily borrowed your Assistant Yu to show me around.”
Lin Wei casually mentioned it before leaving, thinking it was just a minor matter. However, Huo Qijun’s face, which had been showing regret, suddenly darkened: “You’ve been to my company often enough; do you really need someone to guide you?”
“I need him to help me with something.” Lin Wei shrugged. “If you mind, I can wait until after his shift to meet him.”
His gaze held a hint of curiosity as he examined Huo Qijun; truthfully, after what Fang Yueyue had just said, he could no longer decipher what Huo Qijun was really thinking.
At this moment, however, Huo Qijun returned to his usual work state, expressionless, and said coolly, “I don’t mind; you can take him. I can manage on my own!”
“…… Fine.” Lin Wei didn’t bother with pleasantries and accepted, pushing the door open to leave.
