The contract knights reacted even more violently, trembling all over, their eyes bloodshot, completely devoid of humanity, with only madness evident in their gaze.
“Cough cough… Dedicated to the great Light God, dedicated to the great Light God.”
The shadow that had been gradually dissipating suddenly flared with brightness, almost as if it would swallow Rusnian whole.
“Master need not worry, under high alert mode, no one can harm you; just eliminate that cardinal in red.”
In the silence, Rong Qing’s calm voice broke through.
Rusnian did not move; he merely lifted his gaze slightly to lock eyes with the Light God.
Wood’s incantation became more urgent, his voice trembling and sharp.
The Light God was clearly shrouded in holy light, making it impossible to see his features; forcing a gaze would only stab the eyes.
However, Rusnian did not avert his eyes. He firmly stared at the deity before him and, after a long while, turned to speak softly to Ebel, who stood in the distance.
“Make him shut up.”
At once, Ebel reacted, flipping over and placing his sword to Wood’s neck before Wood even realized what was happening.
The unceasing incantations halted, and Wood’s eyes widened in terror as he gazed at the sword that was only an inch away from piercing him.
But the incantation had taken effect; the massive shadow completely solidified, slowly opening its eyes to emit two beams of golden light amidst the whitish mist.
It appeared ethereal, as if carrying infinite divine power, and a majestic voice resonated: “Who are you to dare harm my follower!”
Rusnian was confused and simply asked, “Wait, I haven’t killed him yet; those contract knights are the ones you harmed, right?”
The shadow ignored his inquiry, behaving like a pre-programmed NPC that continued to speak: “I cleanse the land of evil, let the wicked perish.”
After that, it remained silent. Golden demonic energy surged upward, completely enveloping the space, making it difficult for outsiders to assess the situation within.
As people looked in that direction, their eyes throbbed painfully, let alone catching a glimpse of the battle scene inside.
At that moment, many hearts were in their throats, constantly praying for the demon’s safety.
“Great Demon, please don’t be in danger!”
“The master is so powerful, he will definitely defeat that Light God!”
“What a load of nonsense that Light God is; he’s just an evil deity! I can’t believe so many people worship him, they’ve all been deceived!”
“None of those cardinals are good; they talk about sacrifice—why don’t they sacrifice themselves!”
In the tense atmosphere, people began to mutter curses.
Although it was said that no one in Vista City believed in the Light God anymore, the sect had stood for many years, and many still held fondness for the Light God.
At the very least, he was seen as a deity who loved the people, having protected the continent for thousands of years, and ingrained beliefs were not easily dispelled.
But seeing the selfish and cruel truth behind the so-called divinity made them loathe the Light God immensely.
In contrast, even if the Demon Lord was an evil god, he had never harmed humans and had protected Vista City from the beast tide, granting them so many magical creatures. Even if he was an evil god, he was a good evil god!
They anxiously looked toward the area enveloped in demonic energy, fists clenched tightly.
Seeing this, Wood burst into laughter, mocking, “What are you still thinking? He’s the Light God! Just a demon lurking in the abyss; there’s no way he can survive against a god. Just wait to collect his corpse, ha ha ha.”
“Uh…” His voice abruptly ceased as Ebel’s sword pierced his flesh.
“Don’t forget, your life is still in my hands,” Ebel said fiercely.
Wood’s throat moved up and down as he fell silent.
But his remark heightened everyone’s concerns; although only a few minutes had passed, it felt like a century.
Finally, a faint sound came from within, with a crack, the demonic energy dissipated, and everyone could finally glimpse the situation.
A tall and proportionate figure stepped out, revealing a familiar man with black hair and black eyes, slowly appearing before them.
He seemed not to have dirtied his clothes; a common smile adorned his face, and each step he took resonated in the hearts of the crowd.
Moments later, the gigantic shadow suddenly vanished, turning into points of glowing light, leaving nothing behind as if they had never existed.
The world regained its tranquility, and the ten contract knights fell heavily to the ground, faint sounds of moaning indicating they were still alive.
Wood had been stunned since the moment Rusnian walked out of the demonic energy; he stood there dumbfounded, even forgetting about the sword pressing against his neck. Suddenly, he looked up at Rusnian, a cut appearing on his neck, disbelief etched on his face.
“No, this is impossible!”
Rusnian brushed past him, leaving behind a single remark that drilled into his ears: “This disturbance involves numerous people and seriously interrupts shop hours; the punishment is ten thousand gold coins, with a week’s deadline.”
Only then did some people respond, erupting into cheers that echoed through the sky.
“Truly deserving of the Demon Lord! I said nothing would happen!”
“Hey hey hey, wait for me, I’m next! Let me buy, let me buy.”
“Demon Lord, I want a bottle of cola and three bags of chips; hey, don’t shove!”
Instantly, the queue that had just been disrupted began again; they were eager to stretch their necks and squeeze in to buy a few more items.
The contract knights lying on the ground had regained their sanity, remaining silent, their inner feelings extraordinarily complicated.
Wood paid no attention to these knights; in his eyes, they were merely tools for summoning deities. He was still submerged in the shock of the Light God being defeated.
Ebel had long set his sword aside to restore order; without the appearance of the Light God, they were just a rabble.
