Who is this person?
I don’t recognize him; he must be a lunatic.
They shook their heads, pretending not to hear, and continued anxiously waiting for their turn to buy their desired goods.
Wood’s face darkened; it was indeed a group of uncultured commoners. Once he crushed this demon, they would know his true power.
With a single command, the knight contracts at the back sprang into action, driving the crowd away, and those who remained still drew their blades to threaten him.
Now, Rusnian couldn’t stand by. Whatever they wanted to do was none of his concern, but driving customers away in front of his store and making a scene was simply unforgivable.
He slowly stood up, squinting his eyes, lazily leaning against the doorframe, and said, “You say you are from the Church of the Light God?”
Only then did Wood direct his gaze at Rusnian. Upon seeing his black hair and black eyes, the distinctive appearance of a demon, he noted that he was incredibly handsome and radiated aggression.
He couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy—such an attractive demon was truly a waste! Fortunately, he wouldn’t live long.
Wood lifted his head proudly and said, “Indeed!”
As it turns out, Rusnian had always been quite curious about the Church of the Light God. He already knew that magic existed in this world, but he had never seen a deity and didn’t know if gods truly existed here.
“Why not just call that so-called Light God out?”
His tone was flippant, even a bit disdainful.
With those light words, a storm was stirred up.
Ebul, who had been fading into the background, was startled. How could a demon speak so casually about a deity, dismissing them completely, and even showing a hint of contempt? Just what kind of existence was this demon lord?
Anyone nearby who heard Rusnian’s words couldn’t help but speculate inwardly, growing increasingly alarmed.
Initially, they thought the demon lord was also a deity. But now that they thought about it, even the Church of the Light God couldn’t produce a magic core out of thin air, restore magical power, or directly advance their abilities!
The Church of the Light God had dominated the Lingxi Continent for nearly a thousand years, and while the Light God had made appearances in the past, if divine power were truly so formidable, there would be some rumors about it floating around in recent years.
The demon lord was far more terrifying than they had imagined.
As for what level of power he possessed, they couldn’t even fathom it—stronger than a deity? Did such a thing exist in this world?
Chapter 19
What the people of Vista City were thinking completely eluded Wood. As a seasoned worshiper of the Light God, he regarded the Light God as his highest belief and was outraged by Rusnian’s words.
“How dare a mere evil creature speak this way to the Light God! You only used some trivial methods to deceive others and harm the public; you cannot compare to the greatness of the Light God!”
He gritted his teeth, incited by Rusnian, and shouted to the contract knights, “What are you waiting for?! Get them!”
Rong Qing spoke lightly, “Do you need me to activate the high-level alert system?”
“No need, just activate the low-level alert device. I still want to see what a deity looks like.”
He was genuinely curious. Although materialism had been thoroughly shattered by the system, he had never seen such an existence that surpassed imagination.
“If it’s a god… Rong Qing, can you handle it? Don’t let the deity breach the defense system.” Rusnian’s tone carried a hint of worry.
Rong Qing seemed somewhat surprised and said, “This is merely a low-tier plane; after testing, there is no existence that poses a threat to the system. Even the so-called deities cannot break through the dimensional barrier, so there’s no need for the master to worry.”
The function of the low-level defense system was simply to neutralize any external attacks and rebound them. There were no black hole curses or backlash involved.
As soon as Wood gave the order, the contract knights sprang into action, unleashing streams of magical energy and swords toward Rusnian and his store. The overwhelming onslaught of various colors of light brought with it a looming crisis.
However, before those attacks could even reach their target, it was as if the space twisted for a moment; the magical energy was redirected and shot back in the opposite direction.
The stronger the attack, the greater the rebound force, resulting in a chorus of knightly screams as they clutched their wounds, pale-faced.
Onlookers could only see that Rusnian didn’t even move an inch. He remained silent, as if he carried a mysterious aura, and once the magical energy was released, it all dissipated without a trace.
Those who had attacked him appeared to suffer injuries of various sizes, collapsing to the ground and crying out in pain, while Rusnian himself remained untouched.
“Oh my… Did anyone see the demon lord move just now?”
“He didn’t move at all! I didn’t even sense any magical fluctuations!”
“To render magic energy formless and injure from the shadows—this operation can’t even be done by a deity!”
People exchanged glances, quietly swallowing their fears.
Wood had not made a move, and the once arrogant group was now left with him standing alone amidst a sea of fallen, injured knights.
His eyes widened in disbelief; no, he couldn’t believe Rusnian was this powerful—there had to be some sort of trap set by this guy!
He had heard that this demon possessed many strange magical devices; it had to be some kind of trick!
Fuming, he kicked one of the curled-up contract knights beside him, who groaned in pain.
“Get back up! You can’t be down after receiving such minor injuries! Don’t forget your duties!”
“It’s time for you all to repay the Light God with your blood! You should feel fortunate! Hahahaha! Great Light God, your loyal follower beseeches your power and your divine strength!”
Wood’s voice grew hoarse, and his gaze was wildly fervent, unable to help but dance as he spoke. With his words, the knights on the ground began to slowly rise.
