He whispered, “Thank you.”
Leo shook his head.
He pushed the tray toward the slightly nervous black-haired beauty, speaking gently, “I think you’ll like these.”
“The conditions here are poor, and we need supply ships to come and go.” Seeing Yan Chuan pick one up, Leo’s brown eyes smiled even more as he asked, “Do you need anything? The ship will arrive on the island in about a month.”
The black-haired beauty shook his head in response.
A month.
“I don’t need anything,” he thought for a moment and asked, “Will ships come every month?”
Leo replied, “Yes, it’s too remote here. Even supply ships need to sail for two or three days to reach the shore.”
Yan Chuan pursed his lips.
If the ships required two or three days to sail, he would have to take a boat to leave this island.
But how to board a ship remained a question.
Yan Chuan lowered his lashes, stealing glances at the handsome and sincere prison guard in front of him.
“Sir,” the black-haired beauty pondered for a while and hesitantly began, “Staying here often, don’t you miss home?”
Could people on the island leave on the supply ships, or was this island a one-way street?
Leo shook his head.
“Sometimes I do,” he told Yan Chuan, “but this is my duty. When my shift ends, the ship can also take people.”
Yan Chuan responded with a soft “Oh.”
Leo raised an eyebrow, noticing that the person before him seemed off emotionally, “What are you thinking?”
The black-haired beauty lowered his gaze, showing a hint of hesitation and inner conflict.
In a barely audible voice, trembling slightly, he said, “I’m just wondering if I can really leave here.”
The black-haired beauty looked down at his fingertips.
They were slender and pale, with nails neatly trimmed, hidden beneath coarse cloth that clashed with his wrists.
“I’m a bit scared,” Yan Chuan heard himself say, “It’s too isolated here, and I don’t even know how I ended up here.”
His voice grew softer, “I can’t even see what the outside looks like; I have to stay here every day.”
“My sentence is five years,” the black-haired beauty trembled as he fluttered his long lashes, casting a small shadow on his fair cheeks, “But they say no one can leave here.”
“Mr. Guard,” the eastern beauty looked up, his eyes shimmering with tears, “Can you… take me outside to look?”
Feeling his request might be a bit excessive, he added, “Inside the prison would be fine; I haven’t left the hall in a long time.”
Finally, the delicate and pretty black-haired beauty explained his request.
“There’s too many people there,” he murmured, “I always feel like someone is watching me; I don’t like the way they look at me.”
Looking at the reliable and handsome man before him, the eastern beauty naturally revealed a hint of expectation.
With soft, rosy lips pressed together, he blinked his thick, curled lashes, his eyes glimmering with a gentle shine.
It was as if he trusted the man before him completely, even relying on him just a bit.
A timid, pitiful eastern beauty.
Amidst a sea of vicious criminals, with his delicate and pretty appearance, the “attention” he received was evident.
Here, people wouldn’t go easy on him because he seemed weak and harmless; instead, they would likely think he was easy to bully, and anyone could do something to him without hesitation.
Such a fragile beauty, living in constant fear, was now seeking help from a prison guard who had shown him kindness.
He didn’t want the guard to take him away; his request was simple enough, just to walk around the prison with him.
Just a glance from those glimmering, vibrant eyes could soften everyone’s hearts, granting all his requests without concern.
Such a timid and harmless eastern beauty, how could he do anything out of line while “taking a break”?
Fulfilling his small request wouldn’t harm anyone.
“It’s not allowed to leave,” Leo eventually spoke, his tone unchanged, “but I can show you around.”
The black-haired beauty, holding his lips together, indeed showed a bit of surprise with a smile.
His lips curled into a slight arc, but he hesitated again, “Is this within the regulations?”
Mentioning the prison warden, the eastern beauty wavered, “Won’t this affect you? If the warden finds out, will it be bad?”
His expression was quite conflicted, wanting Leo to take him out while fearing that the kind guard would be affected because of him.
So timid and innocent.
“It won’t affect me,” Leo explained to him. “The warden rarely concerns himself with such matters. His office is in the innermost room of the corridor, and he dislikes being disturbed, so no one goes there.”
The black-haired beauty repeated, “At the end?”
“Yes,” Leo replied pleasantly, “The warden has a very regular schedule; you can only see him in his office when it’s time. Just avoid that time.”
Yan Chuan nodded, “I will pay attention.”
Hearing a definite answer from Leo, genuine gratitude filled Yan Chuan’s eyes.
The warden was a routine-oriented NPC, and his office was in a rarely visited room at the end of the corridor. If he could sneak out after lights out, perhaps he could achieve this seemingly impossible side quest.
