Inside, there was a group of people. In the center, a few pairs of hands held down a lean man on the ground, mercilessly raining punches upon him.
Hearing the commotion from outside, the group displayed expressions of panic and quickly withdrew their hands. The tall, battered man stood up quietly, his figure swaying unsteadily.
The leading stranger collected himself and muttered a curse under his breath. The situation was clear; Yanchuan didn’t even need to question anyone in the room. He simply walked in from outside, silently helped Leon to his feet, and handed him a piece of paper to wipe the dirt off his face.
As he performed these actions, the dark-haired, dark-eyed Eastern beauty didn’t even glance at the others. She merely pressed her lips together, her long lashes hanging down.
Her slender fingers, tinged with a hint of pink, gripped the clean piece of paper, wiping away the grime that had somehow found its way onto Leon’s forehead. The Eastern beauty, slender as she was, couldn’t quite reach, so she tugged on Leon’s sleeve, signaling him to lower his head a bit.
Leon obediently complied.
“It’s not—” The leading stranger, after a moment of watching, remembered his purpose in coming over and quickly began to explain, “We were just playing around, not here to teach him a lesson…”
He slapped his forehead in frustration, belatedly realizing he had interrupted the plan. This man often followed Hesse around, volunteering to be Hesse’s lackey as soon as he entered the prison.
It was also he who had suggested that idea to Hesse during lunch. If Yanchuan paid a bit more attention to Hesse, he might recognize this person. But even if he didn’t know who this person was, he knew who had sent him here.
For example, the Hesse who threatened him to follow him as soon as he entered the script.
After dealing with the mess on Leon’s face, Yanchuan glanced at the sudden influx of people in the laundry room.
“Do you have any other business?” he pursed his lips. “If you are not here to cause trouble, then what are you doing here? Did Hesse send you?”
The leading stranger found himself momentarily unable to answer the question. He had come at Hesse’s request, hoping to subtly persuade Leon to convince the somewhat stubborn Eastern beauty, but Leon was uncooperative.
Not only was he uncooperative, but he also said some things that made the stranger furious.
As he considered the possibility of being interrupted and then getting a lecture from Hesse, his anger inevitably flared up. He suddenly realized how things had turned out. How could he have known that the Eastern beauty would return so quickly?
And how daring of him to stand up and inquire about their intentions.
As he thought about Hesse’s likely reaction to this incident, the unfamiliar man’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat, hastily leading the group he had brought out.
“Let’s go!” he gritted his teeth, finally managing to utter that phrase.
After a flurry of footsteps, the group that had stormed in quickly left, disappearing down the end of the hallway.
Yanchuan closed the door.
“Are you okay?” he frowned. “What did they say to you?”
When he spoke, Yanchuan himself felt uneasy. However, since Hesse hadn’t sent them to look for him but rather to Leon, it indicated that the situation still had some room for maneuvering.
For instance, they might have come to “teach” Leon a lesson to keep him away from Yanchuan, or they could be subtly trying to “persuade” him.
But no matter the case, it was all related to him; otherwise, Leon wouldn’t have attracted their attention.
“Um,” Leon’s voice was a bit hoarse. “They came to find me, warning me to stay away from you and trying to persuade you to agree to Hesse’s demands.”
Yanchuan’s eyelashes fluttered.
Just as expected.
Otherwise, they would have been working diligently in the laundry room and wouldn’t have attracted any trouble.
“Does it hurt…” Yanchuan stammered, unsure of what to say. “Is it very painful?”
Leon shook his head.
“They wouldn’t dare go too far,” he replied. “I’m fine, it’s not serious.”
The prison uniform jacket was still intact, so Yanchuan couldn’t judge the severity of Leon’s injuries, and he could only nod in agreement.
He wanted to say a few words denouncing Hesse and his group, but as he thought about how he was also entangled in this matter, he didn’t know what to say.
Leon, however, said, “You don’t need to feel guilty.”
Yanchuan blinked in surprise.
“They never look for reasons when they punish others,” Leon’s tone was exceptionally calm. “But you, you’ve refused Hesse again this time. Have you thought about how to handle the ‘competition’ that follows?”
Yanchuan’s brows furrowed tighter.
The “competition” they mentioned was merely the arena battles between contestants, where one would end up as the loser and be taken away by the guards to an unknown place.
Someone like him wouldn’t stand a chance… it was certainly very dangerous.
He had also rejected the designated “leader” among the newcomers.
Hearing Leon’s words, the Eastern beauty seemed to pale even further.
His eyes cast downward, his lashes trembling, he appeared anxious.
His lips were pressed tightly together, the small yet full lips forming a subtle pout.
For a small beauty lacking any means of self-defense, this harsh prison environment was indeed difficult to endure unless he found someone who could protect him.
“I’ll think of a way…” the delicate and fragile Eastern beauty paused for a moment before saying, “There’s just over a day left.”
Leon nodded.
With just over a day left, it would be difficult to avoid the “competition,” let alone find a way to win.
But he still nodded, “Okay.”
As they broached the topic that had slipped from Yanchuan’s mind, his mood worsened.
He remembered something and pulled out a paper cup cake he had brought back, feeling a bit embarrassed as he said, “It seems to have gotten squashed… do you still want to eat it?”
The cupcake was small, and it should have looked good, but now it had been squished into a lump.
The Eastern beauty gazed expectantly at Leon.
“Eat it,” Leon tugged at the corner of his purple-tinged lips, managing to show a small smile.
