“Are you all not afraid?”
The middle-aged man, seeing the lack of response, became even more agitated. He shouted, “Only by staying alive can we complete the mission; the more people who die, the less safe it becomes!”
He decided to spill everything: “My identity is the husband of the family in Room Five. Last night, I discovered my wife is an NPC in this show, and she died in a gruesome manner.”
His declaration of identity indicated that Zhou Wu felt very insecure now.
Nobody in the room spoke, only listening to him rant.
Zhou Wu said, “We need to band together. This is a supernatural script; we must connect all the clues to clear it.”
Finally hitting the nail on the head, the discussions amongst the crowd gradually grew louder.
“What do you want to do?” The first to speak was surprisingly Tang Zhen, who smiled. His gentle and handsome face had an intimidating charm to it.
Zhou Wu calmed down: “Let’s exchange identities. We can also swap discovered clues, and for safety’s sake, we can stay together during the day.”
Exchanging identities… that wasn’t a hard conclusion to come to. The apartment building was not that big; the others nodded in thought.
“The couple here to find their child, I’m Zhang Nan.” The woman wearing glasses spoke first, her tone quite competent. She pointed at the man beside her: “With him, Chen Sheng.”
The pale girl exchanged glances with her boyfriend: “We are eloping high school sweethearts, An Wen and Liang Xin.”
Their demeanor was quite intimate, suggesting they were indeed a couple despite being in a survival variety show.
This matched Yan Chuan’s initial impression of them.
The last two were Tang Zhen and Dan Qi; Tang Zhen spoke first: “I’m a guitarist, previously a resident singer in a bar, but I’ve quit and am currently at home.”
Dan Qi scratched the back of his neck, sounding nonchalant: “Dan Qi, an unemployed drifter, working part-time collecting protection fees.”
His tone was too frank, making Yan Chuan unconsciously glance at him a few more times.
Noticing Yan Chuan’s gaze, Dan Qi raised an eyebrow and smiled at him.
Yan Chuan:…
He immediately shifted his eyes away.
He should know better than to look at him.
Next was his turn for self-introduction; Yan Chuan carefully chose his words: “Yan Chuan, the… wife of the family in Room Three.”
He quickly added, “My husband is working overtime and is most likely an NPC.”
[Laughing, Yan Bao also thinks it’s odd that an unfaithful person… wife would say nothing.]
[It reminds me of something; is the wife supposed to wear a dress throughout this script?]
[I find myself somewhat looking forward to hearing the wife say she has many lovers.]
[Anxious! The position of lover is filled, with multiple candidates competing.]
When Yan Chuan said the word “wife,” the other contestants were initially taken aback, but upon seeing his pale, beautiful face, they began to believe it a little more.
With snow-white skin, deep black eyebrows and lashes, and lips a soft rose color, he didn’t look very healthy. His round, bright almond-shaped eyes drooped slightly, with long lashes. His eyes sparkled like a clear spring. His slightly long black hair reached down to his neck, covering his delicate collarbone, and his frame was particularly slender, looking like someone you could easily wrap your arms around.
He wore a simple cloth dress, knee-length, revealing only his white calves and ankles modestly.
The white fitted dress outlined his overly flat physique; surprisingly, this outfit didn’t seem out of place on him.
Overall, he didn’t look like a contestant on a survival variety show at all, but rather like a delicate beauty raised in a glass greenhouse.
Pale and fragile, he appeared to need constant care; he would wilt at any moment of distraction.
When people saw him, words like beautiful, gentle, and fragile came to mind—each one contrasting sharply with the atmosphere of the survival show.
With such a look… it didn’t seem farfetched to imagine him playing the role of a wife in the script.
The next thought of having an NPC “husband” brought to mind Zhou Wu, who had been so frightened just moments ago.
Doubting glances turned to sympathy, mixed with curiosity about what this NPC “husband” might be like.
According to the script, a husband and wife should naturally sleep together, which greatly increased the likelihood of encountering danger, which was why Zhou Wu urgently suggested the contestants gather and exchange clues.
Excluding Zhou Wu, he was the only contestant with a special connection to an NPC.
In no time, the attention on Yan Chuan increased.
After introductions, Zhou Wu began to reiterate the request to stay together during the day.
However, some people disagreed. So far, only he had explicitly mentioned encountering a supernatural being in the show and being targeted by it. Wouldn’t it be risky for others to be near him?
Liang Xin, the male counterpart of the couple eloping, spoke with a scowling tone: “Don’t you realize that gathering so many contestants will only attract more attention from the supernatural beings?”
“It’s safer to stay together,” he coldly pointed out, “Aren’t you afraid of being implicated?”
“You’re the only one here who has been targeted since day one.”
Zhou Wu opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing, dejectedly closing it.
His thoughts indeed echoed that sentiment.
The atmosphere grew tense, and finally, it was Tang Zhen who stepped up to say: “There’s no need to stay together. Too many people will actually hinder our chances of clearing the script. Those who want to exchange clues can set a specific time to meet on the first floor.”
At night, they would need to return to their designated places and play their roles.
This compromise was more acceptable, and Zhang Nan nodded, suggesting everyone could gather here to exchange clues before noon.
Yan Chuan also nodded.
Even though last night he had encountered a ghost, who knows what useful information might come up later?
After a round of discussion, the group separated, and Yan Chuan returned to Room Three.
He turned the doorknob and found the apartment was still eerily quiet, with only him inside.
Yan Chuan paused at the entrance for a moment before stepping in.
He had left in a hurry that morning and hadn’t had time to examine every corner of the apartment, unaware of any unusual occurrences.
Yan Chuan was certain that someone had indeed entered last night, watching him by the bedside throughout the night.
