“There are two things we need to address.”
The Old Insect Emperor said, “Who will take over Harvey’s position after he steps down? And if the Empire Star can no longer hold, what should be our next step?”
A minister suggested, “If it comes to it, we can retreat to other planets and wait to regroup for a counterattack.”
“Absolutely not!” The Old Insect Emperor slammed his hand on the table, his aged face turning red with anger. “How could we ever lose to those bandits!”
This displayed a deep-seated arrogance he was too proud to admit.
Even as he shouted with all his might, all the insects present knew that he was already old and incapable of making any significant changes.
Is it sad?
It indeed is very sad; having expelled the hero who protected them, one should expect a day like this to come.
Tong Sui glanced over at Bai Xingluo.
Although he wore a façade of indifference, his eyes were focused on a distant point, lost in thought.
His hands, resting on his legs, were clenched tightly, with veins standing out on the back.
Yet for Bai Xingluo, they were the subjects he had protected for so long.
Perhaps the greedy and cowardly insects above deserved their fate, but most of the common insects were innocent.
They shouldn’t have to live amidst the chaos and suffering of war.
Tong Sui gently grasped his hand.
Bai Xingluo’s tense body relaxed for a moment as he turned to look at him.
“Luoluo, do you want to drive those space pirates away?”
Tong Sui’s voice was soft, only audible to the two of them, yet it resonated dramatically in Bai Xingluo’s ears.
He seemed to have guessed Tong Sui’s intentions.
“Your Majesty, please don’t be impulsive; the front lines are far more dangerous than you think.”
Bai Xingluo did not doubt Tong Sui. With his mental strength, operating the mech was as easy as pie; however, the variables at the front were too numerous.
What if the Lord was hurt?
Tong Sui reassuringly patted the back of his hand.
“Your Majesty, I request to take Harvey’s place.”
“What?”
His voice caused everyone to look over in astonishment.
All the insects gasped in disbelief.
If they hadn’t heard it with their own ears, they would never have believed that Tong Sui could say something like that.
He had no need to take such a great risk to undertake such thankless tasks.
“Prince Tong Sui, are you really prepared? Things on the battlefield are no joke.”
One minister advised, “Moreover, those space pirates are a group of savage insects; if they know you’re coming, they will surely try to capture you.”
“Yes, that’s too dangerous; we cannot allow you to go.”
Suddenly, Lu Ting spoke up with a different view. “Your Majesty, I request to be Tong Sui’s aide, to go to the front lines together.”
After speaking, he turned and smiled at Tong Sui.
To the other insects, it seemed as if they were close, but only Tong Sui knew the truth: Lu Ting was a smiling tiger.
“You…”
The insects sitting in their seats felt ashamed.
How could they let the Lord go to the front lines for them? If this got out, they would be ridiculed by all!
“Your Majesty, you absolutely cannot agree!”
The Old Insect Emperor glared at Tong Sui, “If you get hurt, I will immediately send someone to bring you back, and I will be in charge of all future arrangements. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“I am sure.”
The Old Insect Emperor nodded.
He thought that Tong Sui was just a young adult still harboring unrealistic fantasies. Once he saw the cruel realities of the battlefield, he would naturally come back seeking refuge after facing setbacks.
As for Lu Ting.
The Old Insect Emperor said, “You can go, but you must follow Tong Sui’s orders, understand?”
Lu Ting replied, “I will.”
An assembly member in military uniform nodded, “Take them to the camp.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The member stood up and bowed to Tong Sui. “Let’s go, Prince Tong Sui.”
They left the conference hall.
A sleek military ship designed for combat hovered before them.
Perhaps it had just returned from the front lines; it still bore the scent of gunpowder, somewhat pungent, but that did not diminish its austere beauty.
Tong Sui stepped into the ship, and the interior felt much more cramped.
Lu Ting followed him, sitting opposite. He did not shy away, his gaze scanning Tong Sui from head to toe.
His tone was strange, “I never expected you could evolve to S rank.”
“The feeling of reaching the top must be delightful, but the higher you climb, the harder you fall,” Lu Ting remarked. “Do you think just by replacing Lu Yuanzhao’s position, everything will go smoothly?”
“Shut up.”
A cold voice interrupted Lu Ting.
He was momentarily taken aback by the familiar voice.
He glanced towards Tong Sui and, upon seeing an unremarkable face underneath a servant’s attire, he felt a sense of relief and laughed.
“Is this your dog? When the master speaks, how can the dog interrupt?”
Lu Ting’s gaze narrowed when he noticed the faint marks on the side of Bai Xingluo’s neck.
“I didn’t expect your taste to be so poor; you take in whatever comes your way, isn’t it because wild pigs can’t eat fine grains?”
Before his words finished, a shadow flashed in front of him.
Then, Lu Ting felt his neck gripped tightly, effortlessly lifting him from his chair.
“Bang!”
Lu Ting was slammed against the cold wall.
“Weren’t you told to shut up? Since you can’t stop, let me help you.”
His appearance, utterly unthreatening, contrasted with the icy glare filled with murderous intent in his pale eyes.
Lu Ting felt the pressure on his neck making crackling sounds under the strain, fearing it might snap at any moment.
