He quietly lifted his head. Bai Xingluo had removed his disguise at some point, and now he looked just like his normal self.
Noticing his gaze, Bai Xingluo lowered his head.
“Majesty, is something wrong? Do you feel unwell?”
Tong Sui instantly flushed at his question, burying his head in Bai Xingluo’s embrace and muffling a response, “No.”
Bai Xingluo placed a kiss on the top of his head.
“Majesty, you are very impressive.”
At the compliment, Tong Sui shivered slightly, his ears, hidden beneath his tousled hair, turning a bright shade of red.
“Don’t say that.”
“Why can’t I say it?”
Bai Xingluo leaned down and whispered something in his ear, his cold lips moving a few times.
Tong Sui finally couldn’t take it anymore. He lifted his head, his messy hair framing his face, and the tip of his nose still retained a hint of pink.
He covered Bai Xingluo’s mouth with his hand.
“Alright, no more talking.”
As if any more words from Bai Xingluo would truly make him cry.
Bai Xingluo gazed deeply at him, his throat bobbing, his pale blue eyes deepening with emotion.
Tong Sui felt nervous under his gaze, memories of their previous untold experiences flooding back, and he stubbornly added, “You can’t look at me like that either.”
“Majesty, you are so cruel to me.”
However, Bai Xingluo still knew his limits. Today had already been excessive; he couldn’t let the majesty become too exhausted.
Bai Xingluo carried Tong Sui into the bathroom.
Tong Sui had been in the dark for so long that the bright lights blinded him for a moment; it took a few seconds for him to regain focus.
He blinked and inadvertently glanced at the mirror hanging in the bathroom.
The mirror, illuminated under the white light, reflected everything with striking clarity.
Tong Sui saw himself.
Though his little dress was crumpled and unsightly, he was still somewhat presentable.
But as for Bai Xingluo, who was holding him, Tong Sui quickly averted his gaze after just a glance, feeling a surge of guilt.
He felt somewhat uncomfortable in the chaos, and impulsively bit Bai Xingluo a few times; in reality, it was only a few…
Why was it so obvious?
Feeling guilty, Tong Sui sneaked another look at Bai Xingluo’s face, only to find a faint mark on Bai Xingluo’s jaw where he had bitten him.
Tong Sui: “…”
Bai Xingluo filled the bathtub with hot water and turned around, saying, “It’s ready. You can take a bath now. I’ll go get you some clothes.”
Noticing Tong Sui standing still, Bai Xingluo asked, “Do you need me to help you?”
He walked over, lowered his head, and easily unfastened the small straps on Tong Sui’s dress with his teeth.
“No need, I’ll do it myself.”
Knowing that Tong Sui was easily embarrassed, Bai Xingluo didn’t insist further and turned to leave.
Bai Xingluo opened the wardrobe in the bedroom.
At first glance, he spotted the white suit he had cleaned, which hung in a dust-proof bag.
All the stains and blood had been washed away.
It wasn’t a custom item, nor particularly expensive.
Yet, he kept it in the most cherished position.
This suit held special significance for him.
Bai Xingluo was the most outstanding military elite. After graduating from the academy, he joined the army, his abilities exceptional, and he was promoted quickly.
He had even been invited back to the academy to give a speech.
He was used to extending a helping hand to other vulnerable beings, always in a position that was bright and admired.
When his psychic powers erupted and harmed Lu Ting, who had malicious intentions towards him, suddenly all his honors and glory were stripped away from him.
It was as if overnight, all creatures placed him as an enemy, condemning him, wishing for him to be sentenced to death.
He realized that the abilities he once thought he possessed were powerless and pale under certain established societal rules.
Standing in court, listening to the verdict that belonged to him, Bai Xingluo felt as if he and his pure black wings melded into one, as if that was where he cracked open the silver-white shell and revealed his true nature.
He was this chaos and darkness, merely having disguised himself too well, even forgetting what he originally looked like.
Just as he thought he would completely succumb to darkness, it was Tong Sui’s appearance that interrupted everything.
Only the majesty chose to stand by his side.
His fingers gently brushed the suit, as if recalling the scene from that day.
Bai Xingluo neatly hung the suit back up, grabbed other more comfortable home clothes from the wardrobe, and turned to head back.
After Bai Xingluo left, Tong Sui slowly removed his wrinkled clothes, gradually submerging himself in the bathtub.
The water level reached above his shoulders.
The warm water was just right, washing away most of his fatigue. He leaned his head back, letting the warm water soak his dark hair.
[Would you like to see what you look like now?]
The system’s voice echoed hauntingly.
Tong Sui jumped in surprise, suddenly recalling that the system had spoken a lot earlier, but he had automatically ignored it all.
“I’m sorry…”
Tong Sui’s apology seemed futile; the system was still very upset.
[Do you remember what you were doing during the mission? Running onto the villain’s bed like this? Will you do the same in the next world?]
“When did you become so good at mocking people…”
[Don’t change the subject!]
The system said: [You have no idea how painful it is for hosts who develop feelings for their mission targets once the task is complete.
Watching the task target die while they must head to the next world to continue their mission.
Do you want to experience that kind of pain?]
Although the system lacked the rich emotions of humans, it was precisely for that reason that it could seek benefits and avoid harm, solving problems in the most rational way.
From its perspective, Tong Sui’s behavior was unnecessary and redundant.
