The system coldly exposed him: “You don’t even understand humans, let alone the insect race. Completing a perfect assignment isn’t that easy.”
Assignments…
It seemed that every time, Bai Xingluo was the one to turn in the assignment for him, never a single word spoken about it. What about him?
He felt like he couldn’t even learn how to kiss.
Seeing Tong Sui remain silent, Bai Xingluo leaned down, his light blue eyes seemingly cloaked in an air of mysterious obscurity in the darkness.
“Your Majesty, what do you plan to eat first?”
Tong Sui’s Adam’s apple bobbed, as he felt Bai Xingluo’s words conveyed a different meaning than what he usually understood.
He muttered softly, “…I’m not very hungry.”
“But Your Majesty,” Bai Xingluo’s voice grew even more enigmatic, like a pool of spring water building pressure to need release.
“I’m really hungry.”
“Well, um…”
Tong Sui’s panic made it hard for him to form a complete sentence, as he felt that any further conversation could cause everything to spiral out of control.
However, Bai Xingluo seemed unwilling to give him a moment’s hesitation.
“Let’s wash the vegetables first.”
“Oh, okay.”
Tong Sui responded innocently, “What vegetables to wash? I’ll help you.”
“No need, I’ll wash them myself.” Bai Xingluo lightly touched the corner of his gaze before standing up and walking toward the bathroom.
“Wait for me.”
It was only until he was alone in the room that he heard the splashing sounds of water on the other side of the wall.
At that moment, Tong Sui realized something was off.
That wasn’t the kitchen.
The system suddenly spoke up: “If you don’t want to continue, it’s best to run now.”
Run?
Tong Sui glanced at the closed door.
The system chimed in: “Have you thought this through? He’s just a task target, getting emotionally involved with him is a very unwise choice.”
It had heard complaints from other companions before.
Because the host developed feelings for characters in the task world, they often abandoned their original mission, leading to a life dedicated solely to that world until its end.
Consequently, in subsequent task worlds, they found it hard to detach from the last world and fell into a state of despair.
Tong Sui appeared to be the kind of host who could be irrational because of emotions.
The system had finally managed to cling onto a solid leg, yet it didn’t want it to be snuffed out so prematurely!
The system insisted: “You don’t like him at all; it’s merely pity and compassion toward a task object! You’ve experienced too little!
This is the first world, and you can’t end up together with the task target in every world, can you?”
The system added: “Of course, if you need to resolve some personal physical issues, I won’t stop you, but you must, must not develop real feelings!”
Tong Sui didn’t think too much about it…
But he felt the system’s words weren’t accurate. If it were just compassion, how could he accept doing such intimate things?
He would feel sorry for a beggar on the street, at most giving a bit of financial help, but never investing more emotional thought.
As for liking someone.
Tong Sui had never liked anyone before; he had received many confessions from others.
There were long-term roommates, complete strangers, and students from both his school and others, nearly every type of personality imaginable.
Yet they all seemed to blush, and when their eyes met his, most would shyly look down.
His fingertips felt damp.
The warmth from his body seemed to return to Tong Sui after a long time away.
He wasn’t sure if this could be called liking, but he certainly didn’t dislike it.
He didn’t dislike Bai Xingluo.
In fact, he felt some dependence and nostalgia, enjoying the time they spent together.
The system watched its host floating in a daze, yet to be seduced, and was already falling deeper.
It suddenly felt a bit despondent about the future.
It urged: “Don’t get too excited! Do you really think you’re psychologically prepared? Do you actually know how to handle those things?”
Tong Sui blushed and said softly, “Is it really that hard?”
It seemed so simple when Bai Xingluo helped him; if that were the case, everything else should be easy too…
The system replied: “I’ve picked out some study materials for you. Read those before you say anything.”
“Oh.”
Tong Sui braced himself mentally. Since the boys at their school seemed to enjoy it thoroughly, he could definitely manage.
So, he opened the study materials the system had sent him.
The image showed an injured military female.
Some of the wounds on her body had scabbed over while others were still fresh, scattered haphazardly across her body.
And the wings that should have been full of power were pierced by cold chains, leaving blood holes that had dried up and congealed. The other end was firmly pinned to the ground.
As long as she made even the slightest additional movement, the solid, cold chains would tug on her most delicate wings.
Tong Sui was about to say the system had sent the wrong study materials.
Then, from within the frame, another figure emerged.
The kneeling military female seemed to shudder at his appearance, her eyes filled not with joy, but deep fear.
It seemed she was about to face a brutal punishment.
That male insect approached, holding a whip that looked eerily familiar, seeming to be the same as the one he saw in the prison that day.
The barbed whip, with residual bloodstains, was frighteningly sinister.
Tong Sui exclaimed, “System, did you send the wrong video?”
This was clearly a one-sided torture!
It was completely different from the scene he had imagined; how could it be like this?
The system replied: “No, this is it. Can’t you handle just a few seconds of viewing?”
Tong Sui gritted his teeth and dared only to cast a weak glance at the image, his heart racing.
The male insect was now right in front of the military female, the whip in his hand swinging down mercilessly, striking again and again.
