Tong Sui asked, “Can I sit in the passenger seat?”
Before Jiang Ci Yan could respond, Zhong Yi chimed in, “This is the first time I’m inviting someone to sit in the passenger seat of this car, Tong Sui, are you really not coming up?”
Jiang Ci Yan opened the passenger door of his car.
Tong Sui turned to Zhong Yi and said, “Sorry, but you should save the first time for someone else.”
With that, he took a seat in Jiang Ci Yan’s car.
Zhong Yi watched as the black sedan drove away, realizing he had been rejected; someone had actually turned him down.
He revved the engine and followed after them.
Zhong Yi quickly caught up, feeling stifled as he lagged behind, frowning.
The speed they were going was akin to an elderly person taking a stroll.
Seizing the opportunity, he changed lanes and drove parallel to Jiang Ci Yan’s car, turning his head to Tong Sui and asking, “Are you really not considering it?”
Jiang Ci Yan glanced at him and raised the passenger side window by Tong Sui.
He calmly stared ahead.
Zhong Yi, feeling infuriated, pressed the accelerator, and the roar of the sports car seemed to unleash his dissatisfaction, quickly pulling away from them.
By the time Tong Sui and the others reached the outdoor parking lot at the supermarket, Zhong Yi was already there.
With his tall stature, he stood out even when leaning against the front of his car with a sour expression; passersby couldn’t help but turn their heads, some even taking out their phones to photograph him.
When Tong Sui and the others approached, Zhong Yi stood up straight and directed his gaze at Jiang Ci Yan, “What was that about closing the window? Didn’t you see I was talking to him?”
“Talking while driving can lead to accidents,” Jiang Ci Yan replied, “I don’t want to become a topic on a legal program.”
Zhong Yi fell silent.
He had participated in championships before; he could drive in places like this with his eyes closed.
It was clear that Jiang Ci Yan was using his cunning to prevent him from speaking with Tong Sui; he was good at pretending.
They stood there for a while, and the parking lot became crowded with onlookers. If earlier they were stealing glances, now they were openly staring.
Jiang Ci Yan said, “Let’s go in.”
The supermarket was located on the basement level of the mall.
There were many shopping carts at the entrance, and Jiang Ci Yan took one and pushed it inside.
Their appearance was too striking; wherever they went, they attracted attention.
Zhong Yi didn’t mind it at all; instead, he was quite curious about the items in the supermarket, walking around with his hands in his pockets.
Since he had people managing his daily activities, he had never personally been to a supermarket to buy anything. Seeing Tong Sui and the others putting items into their cart, he casually tossed in a few bags of snacks.
Soon, he realized that neither Tong Sui nor Jiang Ci Yan paid him any attention, and his moment of novelty quickly faded.
Zhong Yi fiddled with the snacks on the shelves.
He regretted coming; here he was, an unnecessary presence hindering their intimate two-person world. It might have been better to go home and sleep.
“Zhong Yi,” Tong Sui called him, “Can you help me with something?”
Zhong Yi, who had been lazily leaning against the shelf, instantly stood up straight and walked over awkwardly, “Since you asked, I guess I can reluctantly agree.”
“This crucian carp is in the fresh food section, and these items should also be in that area. Can you grab them for me?” Tong Sui said. “Jiang Ci Yan and I will go to the vegetable and fruit section; it’ll be quicker that way.”
Zhong Yi replied, “Okay.”
He then turned and headed toward the fresh food section, while Tong Sui and Jiang Ci Yan went in the opposite direction to pick out some greens.
In truth, neither of them had much experience in life; when it came to choosing, they simply picked whichever looked good, with the only certainty being that they wouldn’t buy the wrong items.
Tong Sui casually picked up a plump, round tomato and remarked, “Si Yuan is amazing at cooking.”
Jiang Ci Yan leaned down to select tomatoes too, his eyelashes slightly lowered. “You like someone who can cook?”
“Sort of?” Tong Sui replied, “Because I can’t cook. I’ve noticed more people who can cook in the last two seasons. Luckily we have Si Yuan among us; otherwise, this season would be a disaster.”
With a hum, Jiang Ci Yan placed the chosen tomatoes into a bag. “You pick first; I’ll go grab a few things.”
Tong Sui replied with an “oh,” watching Jiang Ci Yan walk away before focusing intently on selecting tomatoes.
After a while, Jiang Ci Yan returned.
Tong Sui caught a glimpse of what he was holding and froze; it was a few books related to cooking?
Jiang Ci Yan naturally placed them in the cart, leaning over to see the note that Tong Sui was holding, asking, “What else do you need to pick?”
Tong Sui raised his eyes slightly, inadvertently meeting Jiang Ci Yan’s striking side profile, where soft shadows fell when his eyelashes cast a subtle darkness.
Noticing his silence, Jiang Ci Yan looked up and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Tong Sui snapped back to reality, feeling his cheeks flush slightly. He had been distracted by Jiang Ci Yan’s face; he hurriedly said, “We still need fruits and milk.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Jiang Ci Yan pushed the cart ahead, while Tong Sui touched his burning cheeks.
He must be overthinking it.
Jiang Ci Yan picking up those books probably just meant he wanted to learn cooking or was interested in it; it doesn’t necessarily relate to their conversation.
In stark contrast to Tong Sui’s uncertainty, the comments flooded in:
—— Tsk, tsk, tsk, Sui Bao just praised Zhou Si Yuan’s cooking skills, and look, General Jiang starts buying books to learn to cook.
—— Hahaha, three words had the boss washing his hands to make soup for me.
—— I’m totally shipping this couple!
—— Sui Bao is blushing; that’s way too easy to embarrass—what will happen when it comes to romantic lines? He will completely break down.
—— Even someone as rich, handsome, and tall as Jiang Ci Yan wants to learn cooking just to impress, so what are other men so proud of in real life?
……
Tong Sui watched Jiang Ci Yan pick fruits, their cart nearly full, and wondered why Zhong Yi hadn’t returned yet.
Surely nothing had happened, right?
Though rationality told him an adult could hardly encounter problems in a supermarket, there was something about Zhong Yi that made Tong Sui feel otherwise.
