The clothes on Tong Sui were already loose-fitting pajamas, and since he had lost some weight recently, they hung even looser. A slight tug could easily make them slide up or down, exposing his fair shoulders or thin waist. Jiang Hua’s gaze deepened a little.
Tong Sui found himself unable to escape his scrutiny. Even when he attempted to turn away, he was pressed to stay still. All he could do was awkwardly shift his gaze away, staring blankly at a corner of the bedroom, trying to numb his nerves.
But then he heard Jiang Hua’s calm voice: “Why didn’t you let me help you the day before yesterday?”
Tong Sui turned his head back in alarm, “How did you know?”
He thought he had hidden it well enough. Summoning his courage, he met Jiang Hua’s gaze and had to face the fact that Jiang Hua had noticed his wrongdoing from the very start. Tong Sui’s eyelids felt unbearably hot.
This was so embarrassing…
Yet it seemed Jiang Hua wanted to intensify his embarrassment; to prove something, he grasped both of Tong Sui’s hands with one, while the other hand appeared elsewhere. Initially, Tong Sui couldn’t believe it, but after a time, he shamefully adapted.
Even if the same act were being performed, doing it himself felt entirely different than having someone else assist. It was as if the remote control was now in someone else’s hands, and he could only watch as they switched the channels.
Tong Sui had no agency and no involvement. His fingers tightened and relaxed countless times until the strength slowly drained away, leaving his fingers naturally opening.
Jiang Hua’s free hand snaked around his.
With his calloused fingertips, Jiang Hua traced along Tong Sui’s inner wrist up to his palm, bringing a slight tickling sensation as their fingers intertwined. Yet, the warmth in Tong Sui’s palm was nowhere near as intense as Jiang Hua’s fingers.
……
The mist in Tong Sui’s eyes deepened as he gazed at Jiang Hua, lost and unfocused. Jiang Hua casually pulled a tissue from the bedside, wiped his hands, and leaned down to ask, “How’s my service?”
Tong Sui barely had the strength to respond. Fortunately, Jiang Hua did not press him further; instead, he bent down to kiss away the droplets on Tong Sui’s eyelashes. The cool touch only made Tong Sui’s eyelids feel even hotter.
Jiang Hua simply adjusted Tong Sui’s clothes before standing up and heading to the bathroom. Tong Sui stared at the ceiling.
Heat coursed through his face in waves as he raised his arm to cover it. On one hand, he wasn’t used to it; on the other, Jiang Hua’s service was just too good…
Meanwhile, the office door crashed open.
Liu Yelin frowned.
He looked at one of his subordinates who had stumbled in, coldly saying, “Who told you to barge in without knocking?”
Jian Lexian pulled himself up, straightening his disheveled collar.
The subordinate who had crashed in ignored Liu Yelin’s reprimands and turned to plead outside, “It’s really not my fault! The supplies issue was concocted by those two!”
Jian Lexian frowned as he saw a group of ordinary people, who looked like they belonged in a slum, rushing in through the door.
“What are you doing here—”
Before he could finish, he was knocked down, staring in disbelief at the group.
“Enhancers?”
How could these people have abilities?
Jian Lexian recalled hearing about Tong Sui’s invention that could turn ordinary people into enhancers last night. Could it really be true?!
How was that possible?!
In his previous life, he had never heard of such a thing.
His collar was yanked, and his face was struck hard, the sharp pain mixed with a metallic taste filling his mouth.
His space abilities were practically useless and, furthermore, he was outnumbered.
If this was true, and so many had become enhancers, Jian Lexian felt a chill at the back of his mind.
These people would definitely seek vengeance against them.
He quickly distanced himself, saying, “These instructions were all from him; I was also coerced.”
Liu Yelin hadn’t expected him to sell himself out so quickly. Just a few minutes ago, he had been swearing loyalty. Gritting his teeth, he said, “What are you playing at? Stopping the free supply distribution and reclaiming supplies were all your ideas; don’t push it onto me.”
Liu Yelin was far calmer than Jian Lexian.
His enhancement level was more than enough to handle these people, and the base was filled with his influence.
However, he began to regret not having driven Jian Lexian away from the start; then these troubles wouldn’t have arisen, and he wouldn’t have offended Jiang Hua and Tong Sui.
Given the situation, Tong Sui was evidently much more important.
If he could create an invention that gave ordinary people abilities, he could certainly come up with even more incredible results.
The leader of the group said, “If it’s like you said, then we want you to get rid of him.”
Jian Lexian widened his eyes.
Liu Yelin immediately agreed without hesitation.
Jian Lexian suddenly thought of something, his face turning pale.
The zombie wave was about to arrive.
He could not leave the North China base at this time; he would not repeat the same mistakes.
“No, I won’t leave,” Jian Lexian pleaded, “I have supplies. I can give you everything; please let me stay.”
His desperate plea had no effect.
Anyone who stood in this office had endured countless torments, once begging these high-ranking people for a scrap of food.
And what was their response?
They would repay Jian Lexian with the same lack of mercy.
“Director Liu, let’s make a move,” one of them said, “or this won’t blow over.”
Jian Lexian wanted to retreat, but he was tightly held in place, forced to watch Liu Yelin approach him, hand raised to strike his neck hard.
Jian Lexian blacked out.
