Tong Sui’s mind, which was already slow to turn, couldn’t help but think, is this the reward that Jiang Hua wanted?
Shouldn’t he be thanking those who received the supplies…?
Initially, Tong Sui was stiffly leaning against the back of the seat with his shoulder blades, but now it felt like he couldn’t hold himself up and began to slide down. Suddenly, he bumped into something.
“…”
He nervously bit Jiang Hua’s lip.
The bite was light, but it made Jiang Hua aware that something was off with Tong Sui. His narrow eyelids drooped slightly as he glanced down at the position of Tong Sui’s legs and his own knees.
It was a very delicate position.
Tong Sui’s ears turned bright red.
Today, Jiang Hua was wearing a stiff pair of black work pants; kneeling had smoothed out the creases in the fabric.
He blushed and muttered softly, “Move your legs out a bit.”
Following Jiang Hua’s words, Tong Sui relaxed for a moment but just as he wanted to close his knees, a force suddenly pressed against his foot.
Tong Sui looked at him blankly.
Jiang Hua gazed at him meaningfully, and from the depth of his dark eyes, Tong Sui sensed deeper emotions.
A chill ran up Tong Sui’s back, and his sensitive intuition suddenly kicked in, guessing what Jiang Hua was about to do next.
He curled up like a rabbit.
Jiang Hua let out a low chuckle.
Tong Sui felt his ears go numb; despite the car being far from stuffy, he felt like he was about to faint from the heat.
Fortunately, at that moment, a knocking sound came from outside the car.
“Team Hua, all the supplies have been distributed. Should we wait for you a bit longer?”
As soon as Wang Tao’s voice fell, the car door opened.
To his surprise, even though Tong Sui in the backseat had red eyes and nose, looking like he had been bullied, he was still dressed very neatly.
Huh?
Did they come back too quickly?
Feeling Jiang Hua’s probing gaze, Tong Sui curled his legs and shrank into his seat, the moisture in his eyelashes was almost evaporating from the heat.
Jiang Hua interrupted his stare, coldly saying, “Let’s head back.”
Wang Tao quickly withdrew his gaze and started the car.
Tong Sui felt a wave of frustration washing over him.
Why did he react so much just from accidentally brushing against Jiang Hua’s knee?
He probably had been so busy with experiments lately that he overlooked his bodily needs.
But… did Jiang Hua notice just now?
The SUV drove back to the apartment building.
Tong Sui followed Jiang Hua in a daze, unsure how he even got back to the room.
Once inside, Tong Sui didn’t linger and immediately grabbed some clothes to take a shower, using the hot water to barely wake himself up.
After showering, drying off with a fluffy white towel, droplets of water were still stuck in his hair, clinging to his skin, unsure if it was from the hot water or what he had just done in the bathroom.
Seeing him emerge, Jiang Hua stood up to enter.
Tong Sui instantly felt like a cat with its tail stepped on.
“Wait a minute!”
Jiang Hua raised an eyebrow, “What’s wrong?”
“I, I suddenly feel like I haven’t finished washing, I need to go back for a bit,” Tong Sui hurriedly dashed back to the bathroom and closed the door.
This was the first time doing something naughty in someone else’s bathroom. Although he had cleaned up well and ensured nothing was out of place, he still felt guilty, fearing there would be any lingering scents.
After checking multiple times, Tong Sui slowly emerged from the bathroom.
“I’m done…”
Jiang Hua asked, “Why did you take so long to wash today?”
“Ah.”
Tong Sui felt the most guilty part being poked at; he dared not look Jiang Hua in the eyes, stammering, “Just, just a little something…”
Fortunately, Jiang Hua didn’t press further; otherwise, Tong Sui would really have died of embarrassment.
Distracted, Tong Sui dried his hair and crawled onto the bed, listening to the sounds from the bathroom, eventually relaxing into sleep.
On the other side, Lou Yelin furrowed his brow as he listened to the report from his subordinate. “Did he really just distribute those supplies like that?”
“From what I understand, yes.” The subordinate replied, “Their people left right after handing out supplies, without any demands.”
Lou Yelin frowned.
What on earth was Jiang Hua thinking?
The subordinate continued, “The supplies distributed exceeded the usual supply for the base, which has caused significant dissatisfaction among the ability users. They hope you can provide an explanation.”
An explanation?
He was still planning to ask Jiang Hua for an explanation!
At that moment, Jian Lexian entered the room.
Lou Yelin clicked his tongue, “What are you doing here?”
Seeing him, Lou Yelin felt a wave of irritation; if it weren’t for Jian Lexian getting involved with Jiang Hua, this trouble wouldn’t have arisen.
“I heard about what happened at the base,” Jian Lexian said, “You don’t need to worry. Jiang Hua’s actions are against regulations. The supplies he distributed were originally meant for the base; we have the right to take them back.”
They couldn’t do anything to Jiang Hua, but couldn’t they handle a bunch of ordinary people?
Lou Yelin remained silent for a while, then told his subordinate standing aside, “Do as he says.”
That night, a group of ability users stormed into the slums, causing chaos.
A few people attempted to resist but were ruthlessly beaten, left bloodied, powerless to stop them from clearing out all the supplies.
A young child clutched an adult’s arm in fear, “Mom, are we going to starve again…?”
The woman gritted her teeth, forcing her voice to not tremble, “No, we won’t.”
The child, with a bit more innocence than the adult, asked, “Will those older brothers come back to give us things?”
The woman fell silent.
Silence enveloped the slums.
Everyone knew that something like handing out free supplies could never happen again.
Soon, the collected supplies were back in Lou Yelin’s hands. Looking at the mountain of items, he let out a cold laugh.
