Before long, the path to the transitional warehouse was cleared.
As long as Jiang Hua was present, their mission felt almost epic-level in difficulty, yet they were unafraid.
This must be what a sense of security feels like.
Wang Tao immediately rushed toward their destination.
The journey went smoothly with no obstacles, and after easily dealing with a few scattered zombies, they finally arrived at the untouched transitional warehouse.
The team, filled with the nervous excitement of opening a surprise box, cautiously opened the door to the warehouse.
Shelves in various sections were crammed full of goods.
Everyone sighed in relief, but they dared not slack off, quickly moving to gather the hard-earned supplies into the abilities users’ spaces.
Jiang Hua stood on the overpass.
The pitch-black city night sky flickered with white light.
Zombies nearly filled the stairs, stacked one on top of the other as they struggled to climb higher.
Yet, no matter how hard they tried, they could not get any closer.
At that moment, several shadows suddenly appeared in the night sky.
They had enormous wings yet bore human bodies, swiftly swooping toward Jiang Hua on the overpass.
These were flying zombies that had mutated.
Jiang Hua coldly raised his head, drawing out his long knife, and accurately struck one of the wings, causing thick black liquid to spurt out.
The unbalanced flying zombie crashed to the ground.
Jiang Hua approached, pressing the long knife against its temple and coldly gouging out its brain to retrieve the crystal core.
The crystal core was larger than those of ordinary zombies, imbued with even more energy.
Several shadows swept past again overhead.
Jiang Hua narrowed his eyes slightly, using his abilities to fend off the zombie horde while swinging his long knife to deal with the zombies attacking from the air.
The moonlight cast upon him left nothing but a chilling hue.
If anyone were to witness this scene, they would surely be left speechless; on one hand, Jiang Hua was unbelievably strong, and on the other, his movements were far too practiced, exuding a sense of detachment that transcended ordinary humanity.
Zombies piled into mountains of corpses, the stench of blood detectable from several blocks away.
The commotion here attracted nearly half the city’s zombies, dense and seemingly endless, surging toward the overpass from every direction.
Jiang Hua flicked the grime off his knife, his gaze colder than usual, revealing droplets of sweat trickling from his temple upon closer inspection.
The number of zombies surged endlessly, yet his abilities were limited; though Jiang Hua could still hold on, anyone else would have likely been bitten by now.
At that moment, the distant sound of engines echoed.
Several off-road vehicles broke through the darkness, racing toward Jiang Hua. As they approached the base of the overpass, Jiang Hua leaped off the railing, landing steadily on the roof of a moving vehicle.
The zombies following him fell from the overpass like dumplings.
Jiang Hua pulled out two grenades.
He removed the safety pins and accurately tossed them onto the overpass.
With a loud bang as the grenades hit the ground, collapsed debris buried the zombies below, and a towering fireball illuminated half the sky.
The off-road vehicles reached a safe area and came to a stop.
Jiang Hua jumped down from the roof.
He opened the car door and coolly slid into the back seat.
The few people inside turned to look at him.
In the dim lighting of the vehicle, he seemed much the same as usual, expressionless, completely unlike someone who had just endured a fierce battle.
Jiang Hua asked, “Did you get all the supplies?”
“Yeah, yes! Team Leader Hua, don’t worry; we got everything!” Wang Tao asked again, “Are you alright?”
Jiang Hua’s abilities had been heavily taxed.
Though he was eager to rush back to the base overnight, considering the safety and the continuous travel of these days, Jiang Hua said, “Find a place to rest; we’ll head back to the base first thing tomorrow morning.”
The team responded, “Yes!”
By the time they settled in, it was already quite late. Jiang Hua fiddled with the communicator for a while, wanting to hear Tong Sui’s voice without disturbing him.
The next early morning, the convoy set off.
They left just in time to catch Tong Sui’s usual work hours, and Jiang Hua picked up the communicator.
Rustle, rustle, rustle.
Listening to the familiar waiting sound, he anticipated hearing Tong Sui’s sleepy voice as soon as the call connected.
Instead, he heard a strange voice, “Hello?”
Jiang Hua frowned, “Who are you?”
“I’m Tong Sui’s colleague; he wasn’t feeling well yesterday and is still sleeping.”
The other team members in the car clearly sensed a drop in Jiang Hua’s mood; even in times of crisis, it was rare to see him display such emotions openly.
After verifying that Tong Sui had indeed recovered from his fever and was just sleeping, Jiang Hua instructed someone to help take care of him before finally putting down the communicator.
Jiang Hua looked up.
The few who had been sneakily watching hurriedly averted their gazes, among them Wang Tao, who thought he was well-hidden but had been caught.
Wang Tao asked, “Team Leader, is there something you need?”
Jiang Hua replied, “Let’s switch positions.”
“Oh, okay.”
Wang Tao quickly exited the car to give up his seat, moving to the middle row.
To be honest, he had never seen Jiang Hua drive this vehicle himself.
Just after Wang Tao settled, the car sped off.
He was startled and quickly grabbed the handrail, fearing he might get thrown out if he wasn’t careful.
Wang Tao realized for the first time that this car could go so fast, and Jiang Hua’s driving skills were exceptional, making it fast yet stable.
With Jiang Hua taking over, they managed to cut their originally lengthy journey in half.
By the time they returned to the base, it was already afternoon.
A large crowd of refugees had gathered outside the base, far more than when they left.
As they drove deeper into the base, they saw many corpses or people reduced to mere skeletons, either sitting or leaning against tattered tents, looking almost similar to the corpses surrounding them, if not for the slight rise and fall of their abdomens.
