The giant python’s heart was pierced.
A torrent of thick black blood gushed from the wound, staining the ground a deep red.
Several team members rushed out to prevent the python from surviving and delivering a few more blows.
“Leader Hua, are you hurt?”
Jiang Hua wiped the blood from his long knife. “I’m fine, go check on the vehicle.”
“Got it.”
They ran back and propped up the overturned off-road vehicle, inspecting it. “Leader Hua, no issues; we can drive on.”
Jiang Hua replied with a grunt, sheathed his cleaned knife, and returned to the vehicle.
The off-road vehicle drove steadily through the dense forest.
Fortunately, they encountered no significant difficulties during this stretch and made steady progress.
When the light returned to their view, everyone let out a heavy sigh of relief.
This mission was incredibly disgusting.
If it weren’t for Jiang Hua being on the mission with them, they might have ended up inside some mutated monster’s belly.
As they saw the grain warehouse not far away, the vehicle’s speed increased.
They stopped at the entrance of the warehouse.
All team members shouldered their weapons and jumped out of the vehicle. After the encounter with the monsters in the forest, they felt a sense of familiarity when faced with the wandering zombies.
They quickly emptied several magazines and took down all the zombies.
“Looks like at least three thousand square meters.”
“I can’t wait to go in and collect supplies.”
Jiang Hua looked down.
On the ground lay a few faint shoeprints, suggesting that someone had been here for some time; the shoe type indicated they were suitable for rugged terrain.
He squinted his eyes coldly. “Someone has been here.”
“What?”
It was like a bucket of cold water was thrown over them; the excitement on the team members’ faces instantly stiffened.
A few impatient members rushed into the warehouse, only to find the vast space empty, with nothing left behind.
“How is this possible?”
The team pushed open all the doors in the warehouse, and without exception, they found everything was bare.
Nothing had been left for them.
It was as if all their efforts during this time had gone to waste.
The unable to contain their frustrations exploded.
“What kind of work are those reconnaissance teams doing? Damn it, do they think this is a joke?”
“Do they even realize how dangerous it is to come here?!”
Jiang Hua did not join in the complaints.
He had run into similar situations too many times.
In previous missions, they would sometimes receive incorrect intelligence, causing them to waste a trip when the planned target changed.
He took out his communicator, found Lou Yelin’s channel, and dialed it.
Lou Yelin picked up immediately.
Skipping any unnecessary pleasantries, he hurriedly asked, “You guys made it, right? Did you get the supplies?”
Jiang Hua replied, “The grain depot had already been looted before the red rain; we arrived too late.”
“What?”
Lou Yelin clenched his fist, slamming it on the desk, and shouted to his assistant beside him, “Damn it, get the reconnaissance team in here!”
The members of the reconnaissance team trembled and stammered, “It was too dangerous at the time; we saw the area was remote and thought it couldn’t possibly be emptied… ”
Lou Yelin gritted his teeth, “So you had no understanding of the situation inside at all?”
The reconnaissance team members nodded.
Lou Yelin picked up a desk ornament and threw it, “You’re useless! I should throw you to feed the zombies!”
The reconnaissance members trembled all over, hastily saying, “Director Lou, please don’t be angry. There’s a small transit warehouse not far from that location. We’ve confirmed that since the apocalypse, due to population density, the supplies there are intact.”
They crawled closer and handed him new documentation.
Jiang Hua, on the other end of the communicator, remained calm as if he were an outsider. He had no time to listen to their argument and coldly interrupted, “Give me the address.”
After Lou Yelin stated the accurate address, Jiang Hua immediately hung up the call.
Getting into the vehicle, Jiang Hua said, “Change of target.”
The other team members hurriedly jumped into the vehicle.
Lou Yelin glanced at the new report. Given the additional transport time over the original plan, the entire North China base would face a brief food shortage.
And even with the supplies returning, the storage capacity of this small transit warehouse, at best, would not sustain the operation of the massive base for long.
Lou Yelin could hardly fathom the chaos that would erupt in the base at that time.
Just then, an assistant suddenly walked in and said, “Director, a space ability user wants to see you.”
Space ability user?
Lou Yelin contemplated for a moment, “Let him in.”
Jian Lexian walked in.
His appearance was quite striking among men, and due to his high level of ability, he often teamed up with Jiang Hua on missions.
Lou Yelin remembered his face but was currently troubled by the impending food shortage, his tone impatient. “What do you want?”
Jian Lexian said, “I know what you’re worried about right now; I can help you solve it.”
“You?”
Lou Yelin looked up and examined Jian Lexian from head to toe. “What can you do?”
“I can privately provide supplies during this period to help the base get through this crisis,” Jian Lexian smirked lightly, “but there are conditions.”
Lou Yelin frowned, “Do you know how much food the base consumes in a day?”
Jian Lexian calmly pulled out supplies from his space.
The materials filled every corner of the office; aside from staple foods like rice and flour, there were also various canned goods and scarce fruits.
He asked, “Can you trust me now?”
