He walked toward the direction of the zombie.
One of the researchers quickly called out, “Danger! Don’t go over there!”
Tong Sui didn’t slow down his pace.
He stood firmly in front of the zombie, resembling a piece of delicious braised meat. The zombie opened its mouth, drooling, but couldn’t move, emitting a frustrating “huff huff” sound.
Tong Sui frowned slightly.
“Shut up.”
The zombie seemed to have its throat squeezed, suddenly unable to make any sound.
It appeared that his mental powers were functioning perfectly.
Tong Sui issued another command, and the zombie obediently returned to the glass chamber, closing the door behind it.
He turned around.
The two researchers were dumbfounded by the scene, astonished that someone could control a zombie. “H-how did you do that?”
A gleam of red light flashed in Tong Sui’s eyes.
The memories of the two researchers seemed to have been altered, as certain segments were erased.
When the two finally regained their senses, they looked at Tong Sui in confusion, “Eh, when did you come in?”
“I’m Tong Sui, the new researcher starting today.” He extended his hand, “Nice to meet you.”
“Uh, yeah, no problem.”
One of the researchers shook his hand lightly, his body involuntarily trembling.
Why did he feel an inexplicable awe and fear toward this seemingly harmless young man?
Another researcher said, “Since it’s your first day, I’ll take you around to get familiar with the equipment and environment in the laboratory.”
Tong Sui replied, “Sounds good.”
As they toured around, they noticed that the restraining straps on the experimental table were broken.
“Wow, good thing we caught that in time, or we’d have been dead if the zombie had gotten loose.”
His abilities could produce the desired effects on both zombies and humans, so why did they fail in front of Jiang Hua?
Tong Sui familiarized himself with the instruments in the laboratory and became better acquainted with the two researchers.
In casual conversation, he discovered they all attended the same school.
“Then we have to call you junior.”
One researcher lamented, “I used to complain about the exhausting and dirty experiments with the professor, but now with the apocalypse, we can’t avoid doing this kind of work.”
“We’re still lucky,”
If they didn’t have a specialized skill, ordinary people without abilities like them would have no way to survive.
Around noon, outside the laboratory, some researchers who had finished work were eating at the dining table.
Upon hearing the footsteps approaching, a group turned around, whispering among themselves.
“Wow, that guy is so handsome.”
“Don’t you know him? Jiang Hua, a famous lightning ability user in the base. I heard he was a mercenary before.”
“No wonder! His physique is amazing; I’m in love!”
“But what’s he doing here?”
Tong Sui followed the two researchers outside and immediately spotted a tall, familiar figure from a distance.
As he got closer, he hesitantly spoke, “Team Leader Hua?”
Jiang Hua turned his head.
Tong Sui was stunned, hesitating for a few seconds before saying, “Team Leader Hua, what are you doing here?”
Jiang Hua replied, “I came to take you out for a meal.”
Immediately, there was a stir among the crowd.
Many ordinary people in the base preferred to be with ability users, but it was rare to find someone as outstanding as Jiang Hua.
Tong Sui quickly walked up to him.
He initially thought Jiang Hua would lead him to the canteen they visited last time, but instead, they took another path, stopping in front of a restaurant.
The restaurant was empty, without any customers.
However, the interior was unusually upscale. Tong Sui followed Jiang Hua inside and glanced at the menu.
The ingredients were much higher quality than those at an ordinary canteen, and the prices skyrocketed several times.
The cost of one meal here was enough for an ordinary person to pay years of rent in the base.
No wonder nobody was eating here.
Setting aside the taste, the prices were outrageous.
But Jiang Hua seemed to care little. He requested a private room and casually ordered a bunch of jaw-droppingly expensive dishes.
After the waiter left,
Tong Sui said, “Isn’t this too extravagant?”
“It’s fine, just consider it a celebration for your first day at the research institute.”
Tong Sui looked at Jiang Hua, feeling a glimmer of hope in his heart.
Perhaps he should try again.
A flash of determination crossed his eyes as he focused hard on controlling his mental abilities, but Jiang Hua showed no reaction.
Now he could confirm that his abilities had no effect on Jiang Hua.
The most likely reason he could think of was that Jiang Hua’s will was too strong, combined with being a high-level ability user.
Given that, it was certain he wasn’t affected yesterday.
With a newfound confidence, Tong Sui felt it was impossible that Jiang Hua had no feelings for him.
He stood up and walked towards Jiang Hua.
The private room had good sound insulation, and the waiter had just left; they wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.
Though it was only a few steps away,
Tong Sui hesitated for a long time, acutely aware of the sound of his heart beating.
Thump, thump, thump.
What if he was just being overly sentimental?
A faint pink hue crept onto Tong Sui’s cheeks as he approached Jiang Hua, feeling warmth radiating from behind his glasses.
Jiang Hua asked, “What’s wrong?”
Tong Sui didn’t speak but rather wrapped his arms around Jiang Hua’s neck.
“Team Leader Hua.”
His voice was low, slightly trembling with nervousness, yet it was crystal clear in Jiang Hua’s ears.
Jiang Hua tensed for a moment but didn’t push Tong Sui away.
