“Our abilities can evolve, and we can see the zombies just the same.”
Jiang Hua said this while ruthlessly prying open a zombie’s skull; the crystal core hidden inside was noticeably larger than that of a normal zombie.
Zhang Binyu condensed a stream of water with his water abilities, cleaned the crystal core, and handed it to Jiang Hua.
Jiang Hua grasped the crystal core and absorbed it, feeling a wave of energy that was stronger than that from ordinary cores.
“The crystal core is a bit different.”
He used his portable radio to inform the rest of the team, “Everyone, pay attention; the zombies here have different levels. Please be careful where you step.”
The team members all responded affirmatively.
They continued deeper into the gas station, on high alert, but fortunately, did not encounter such a situation again.
At present, they were still in the early stages of upgrading; evolved zombies were only a small part of the overall population.
Before long, a team member’s voice came through the radio, “Hua, I used my earth abilities to locate the oil storage tanks.”
He reported the specific location.
Jiang Hua replied, “Great, let’s head there now.”
Everyone gathered at one point.
The gas station’s oil tanks were located a few meters below the ground.
Each storage tank had a capacity of fifty cubic meters, and the total capacity of the gas station was two hundred cubic meters, equivalent to two hundred thousand liters of oil.
A team member with earth abilities manipulated the soil underground, quickly uncovering several huge oil tanks buried beneath the surface.
Two space ability users in the team took on half each, collecting all of this precious oil.
With this task nearly completed, all that was left was to return safely to the base.
This thought brought smiles to all the members; being at the base was always safer than being outside, without the daily anxiety.
Everyone boarded the off-road vehicles.
Tong Sui also got in, cleaning the knife before returning it to Jiang Hua.
“Thank you.”
Jiang Hua asked, “Is it easy to use?”
Tong Sui honestly shook his head.
The weight was still quite unfriendly for him.
Jiang Hua nodded, “You’re good with the gun; I’ll find you a different weapon next time.”
Having survived a close call, Zhang Binyu gulped down some water in the car, “Thanks to Xiao Sui’s quick reaction, otherwise I would have been done for today.”
“That thing was too sinister.”
After today’s lesson, the team was more cautious when searching for a place to stop for the night.
Wang Tao spread out the map.
“Hua, there should be a small safe zone nearby. How about we rest there for a night?”
After days of traveling, the team had been taking turns keeping watch at night, leaving everyone exhausted.
Moreover, there was still a long way to go on their return journey.
It was time to relax and recharge.
Jiang Hua agreed, “Let’s go.”
“Alright!”
Wang Tao notified the other two vehicles to leave the gas station and head towards the small safe base.
Tong Sui picked up his book again and began reading quietly.
Although he wanted to catch up on his progress, he had rested poorly the night before and had already expended some energy.
His page-turning speed gradually slowed.
His eyelids grew heavier, and the text in front of him became blurry.
Jiang Hua glanced at him; Tong Sui’s head was bobbing like a chick pecking at rice, desperately trying to keep turning the pages.
He appeared as an innocent young master, a clean little researcher, but in some aspects, he was quite different from what Jiang Hua had imagined.
His use of firearms was clearly that of someone experienced; he had noticed that each zombie he shot was hit right between the eyes.
At times, his reflexes were impressively quick.
This was not a level an ordinary person could attain.
He seemed to be a contradictory blend of traits.
But whichever side showed, there was a magnetic charm that drew people close.
As it seemed he was about to topple forward and crash into the seat in front of him, Jiang Hua reached out.
He gently supported Tong Sui’s forehead, feeling his soft hair and cool skin meet his warm palm.
“Rest for a while if you’re tired,” Jiang Hua said.
Tong Sui instantly woke up, shaking his head and adjusting his glasses, “I’m not tired; I can keep reading.”
However, five minutes after saying that, Tong Sui leaned against Jiang Hua’s shoulder and fell asleep, still holding onto the unfinished book.
Jiang Hua chuckled softly, lowering his gaze and setting the book aside for him.
Tong Sui had beautiful brows and eyes.
His brow arch was not too deep, and the transition between his brow and eyelids was like a shallow puddle, with thick eyelashes resembling soft water plants.
When the light from outside the vehicle streamed in, you could vaguely see the faint blue veins and thin fuzz beneath his fair skin, like a plump and sweet peach.
A bite would release a juicy sweetness that fills the mouth, soft and fragrant.
Seemingly sensing that the light was too bright, Tong Sui slightly furrowed his brows.
Jiang Hua reached out to draw the curtains.
Zhang Binyu, sitting in front, turned around and noticed Tong Sui asleep and quietly lowered the middle-row curtains as well.
The interior of the vehicle instantly darkened.
Tong Sui, who had been frowning, relaxed, resembling a small tree sprouting its leaves, the tips tender and sharp.
Jiang Hua’s gaze fell on his lips.
Clearly, just yesterday, they had kissed, leaving his lips looking as red as blood. Now, aside from a few minor abrasions, there were no other marks left behind.
The dim environment in the car was reminiscent of the previous night; Tong Sui remained sound asleep beside him, completely unguarded.
Jiang Hua’s eyes darkened.
He could easily lower his head and kiss those lips again, leaving a new mark.
Thinking of this, his breath quickened uncontrollably, and even the slightest lean brought him close enough to feel their body warmth.
