He asked, “Where’s your partner?”
Tong Sui shook his head, “I don’t have a partner. I came here alone.”
With a clean appearance and no weapons on him, it was evident that an ordinary person like him couldn’t survive on his own.
Jiang Hua wasn’t interested in understanding the reason behind it.
He turned away, “The supplies here are ours.”
In the apocalypse, there is no principle of first come, first served; only the survival of the fittest exists.
However, Tong Sui didn’t seem annoyed at all; he nodded slightly.
“Okay.”
Jiang Hua was momentarily stunned. He had expected Tong Sui to get angry and curse at him or plead for a share of the supplies.
But instead, he saw a pair of bright, sparkling eyes hidden behind glasses.
How did he manage to survive in the apocalypse?
Jiang Hua effortlessly jumped down from the pile of flour and was about to leave when he heard Tong Sui gasp.
Had he regretted something?
There were plenty of supplies here; if he had asked, Jiang Hua could indeed have shared some of it.
Jiang Hua turned back.
But he saw Tong Sui standing nervously, hands outstretched towards him, “Captain Hua, I can’t get down.”
Jiang Hua: “…”
He crossed his arms and stood still, looking at him coldly, “Figure it out yourself.”
For an ordinary researcher, the height was still too much. Tong Sui tried to grab the flour bag and climb down.
His foot slipped.
He fell backward.
Jiang Hua stepped forward and caught him, but before Tong Sui could say thank you, he was already let go.
Jiang Hua turned and walked away.
Tong Sui clutched his bag, following him closely like a little tail.
After a while, Jiang Hua couldn’t help but turn around, his expression icy, “What else do you want?”
Tong Sui spoke softly, “Can you take me along when you leave with the supplies?”
Jiang Hua gave him a dismissive look, “The supplies here can feed you. Bringing you along is pointless.”
“Um.”
Tong Sui was stunned by his bluntness.
Right now, he was just an ordinary person, one of the lowest in the apocalypse.
He tightened his grip on his clothing.
“I can do anything, and I don’t eat much…”
His voice was small, and as he spoke, the tips of his ears turned slightly pink, his soft black hair hanging over his forehead, making him look harmless like a little animal.
Even with his glasses obscuring some of his features, it was still easy to see that he was quite handsome.
In the apocalypse, strength is undoubtedly a valuable currency.
But beauty is also a resource.
In the North China base, there were quite a few ordinary people without powers, relying on their youth and looks to depend on those with abilities for survival.
Jiang Hua had seen many of these people.
But none compared to the young man before him in terms of looks and manner.
He resembled a fresh aquatic plant, with every root clean, swaying gently with the clear water.
If he were willing, there would be many who would support him.
But Jiang Hua was not one of them.
To him, such relationships were just burdens.
Jiang Hua coldly said, “My team doesn’t need useless people.”
Having said that, he left without a glance back.
Tong Sui stood there, his eyes downcast, looking rather disappointed.
The system chimed in: [He’s too ruthless! He actually called you useless! So cold-blooded!]
Tong Sui indeed felt a bit disheartened.
As he lowered his head, he noticed the dust on his glasses and took them off to wipe them with his clothing.
He said to the system, “Actually, he’s not wrong. He’s not related to me, and I have no powers, so I can’t be of any help.”
As Jiang Hua walked out of the food factory, he glanced back at Tong Sui.
He saw him with his head down, cleaning his glasses.
…Is he actually crying?
Jiang Hua felt inexplicably restless inside.
His expression remained blank as he leaned against the off-road vehicle, silently wiping his long knife as usual.
A few of his team members finished searching all the supplies and handed the compiled list to Jiang Hua.
“Captain Hua, all the supplies have been stored in the space, and here is the inventory.”
“Hmm.”
Jiang Hua took the list and glanced at it.
The amount of flour was already sufficient to meet the food quota for this mission; what was needed next were some resources like fuel and daily necessities.
“Captain Hua, it’s getting late. We should find a place to rest.”
“Hmm,” Jiang Hua said as he got into the off-road vehicle and looked back at the food factory. “Wang Tao, come here.”
A team member named Wang Tao approached. His ability level wasn’t as high as Jiang Le Xian’s, but he was also a Level 3 space ability user.
When Tong Sui heard the approaching footsteps, he excitedly looked up but found that the person coming was a completely unfamiliar man.
Wang Tao took out ten bags of flour from his space, saying, “You’re lucky; these are for you as instructed by Captain Hua.”
Each bag weighed ten pounds.
That’s a total of one hundred pounds of flour, enough for Tong Sui to last six months by himself.
Though Wang Tao didn’t understand why this was being done, Jiang Hua’s command was something he could not disobey.
He was waiting for someone to express gratitude and appreciation.
However, Tong Sui said, “I don’t want it; you can take it back.”
Wang Tao was momentarily taken aback, taking a few seconds to process that he was actually being refused?
Wang Tao frowned, “Is it too little?”
Are there still people who aren’t satisfied these days?
Under normal circumstances, anyone receiving such a bounty of food would be overjoyed.
After all, even in a super-large safe zone like the North China base, ordinary people can only barely scrape by on food through intense daily labor.
He looked at the delicate and tender Tong Sui. If it weren’t for Jiang Hua’s kindness, this person wouldn’t have any ability to procure food for himself.
