Tong Sui didn’t want to disturb his official business, and the two had not seen each other for a while.
In the second year, there were many more practical projects compared to the first year.
This week, the Mecha Department and Command Department were going to the mecha training base again, just like last time.
Since they had visited several times already, the novelty had worn off for everyone.
On the starship, everyone looked downcast.
They preferred the theoretical classes where they could relax rather than the strict assessments of practical training.
Tong Sui organized his belongings and felt a bit tired. He lay on his bed and felt as if his body was sinking, lacking any strength.
He opened his holographic computer and stared at Yelingyuan’s name for a long time.
He wanted to chat with Yelingyuan, but thinking about how busy the other person must be, he decided to let it go.
Just then, his holographic computer rang.
It was a communication from Yelingyuan.
Tong Sui quickly got up, hurriedly put on his shoes, and ran to the balcony to answer.
Tong Sui said, “You finished?”
“Not yet, but I wanted to see you,” Yelingyuan replied. Behind him was a conference room filled with people; it seemed like they had more meetings to attend.
“Why do you look a bit unhappy?”
“I was just a bit tired organizing things.”
Yelingyuan’s assistant approached and whispered, “Director, it’s almost time for the meeting. What do you think?”
Tong Sui said, “You go ahead.”
“Okay,” Yelingyuan replied. “If you’re tired, rest early, understood?”
“Mmhm.”
After hanging up, Tong Sui noticed the call lasted only a little over a minute.
He walked back to his dorm in a daze.
“Hey, Tong Sui, why are you back so soon? I thought you’d chat for an hour or two!”
A usually inactive Xiaopang was doing planks on the floor.
Tong Sui paused his steps, “What’s wrong with you?”
“Image management,” Xiaopang replied, blushing. “I’ve recently developed a crush on an Omega, but I feel like I don’t deserve him, so I’m working hard to improve my competitiveness!”
Tong Sui sat on the edge of his bed.
He watched Xiaopang exercise for a while before his gaze drifted to Jiang Che and Duan Jiamu, who were huddled together working on problems.
Their figures overlapped with certain scenes in his mind.
Tong Sui remembered the time Yelingyuan tutored him and couldn’t help but smile lightly, mixed with a complex emotion.
Had they spent too little time together recently?
Tong Sui lowered his eyes.
The system sensed his mood shift and suggested, “How about we watch an animated movie?”
“You go ahead; I want to sleep.”
Tong Sui lay on the bed, feeling empty inside.
He rarely encountered such emotions. Even though he wrapped himself tightly in the blanket, he still felt that something was missing.
He dozed off in a confused slumber but woke up feeling uneasy, drenched in cold sweat.
Tong Sui took a few sips of cold water.
Unable to bear the sticky feeling on his body, he took another shower.
The next day, Tong Sui barely ate breakfast. Even the light pumpkin porridge couldn’t raise his interest.
“Hey, Tong Sui, what’s wrong? You’ve seemed a bit down since yesterday. Are you feeling unwell?”
“Do you need help asking for leave from the instructor?”
“No need.”
Tong Sui didn’t feel particularly unwell; aside from some heaviness in his body, he was merely inexplicably anxious.
Listening to the repetitive and boring content, Tong Sui rubbed his neck.
There was a sensation of slight pressure.
It wasn’t intense; it felt more like an illusion.
The mecha training involved actual combat.
The opponents were fully automated intelligent mechas, with final assessment scores based on the damage inflicted.
The intelligent mechas could predict attacks; the previous Alphas had not managed to touch it and had instead been toyed around with.
Tong Sui settled into the cockpit of the mecha.
He familiarized himself with the control panel, and as he watched the mecha hovering in midair, he felt his pent-up emotions find an outlet.
A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes.
The mecha unleashed a shadowy figure, closing in on one of the intelligent mechas almost in a breath.
Before it could calculate a response, it was slammed into the ground, creating a deep pit.
The surrounding area was engulfed in dust.
“Oh my gosh!!!”
“That’s so cool! Tong Sui, smash it!”
Since the opponent was an intelligent mecha, Tong Sui didn’t worry about holding back; it was almost like a cathartic attack, fast enough that the exact form was unrecognizable.
Several intelligent mechas emitted beeping alarm sounds, lights flashing red.
The instructor began to sweat nervously.
If they continued like this, they might explode, so he hurriedly instructed Tong Sui to stop.
The battered intelligent mechas could only struggle to move slightly, looking like a heap of junk.
Tong Sui exited the mecha cockpit, only lightly sweating, his bangs damp, his cheeks flushed, looking as if he had just jogged two laps.
If it weren’t seen firsthand, it would be hard to connect this non-aggressive Alpha in front of him to the person who had just controlled the mecha.
The chief instructor wiped sweat from his brow and said, “You’ve passed this assessment. You don’t have to participate in the subsequent training.”
If this continued, their mechas would be ruined.
“Alright.”
Although other classmates envied him, they didn’t dare say much.
After all, strength was paramount.
After being approved for free movement, Tong Sui returned to his dorm.
Since it was still training time, the dorm was quiet. He had thought the eerie silence was just his imagination, but the heat at the back of his neck had not dissipated and instead seemed to be subtly spreading.
Could he be coming down with a fever?
