“Oh.” Jiang Che replied.
“Do you feel any better? You probably can’t go to the campus infirmary; it would be bad if they find out you’re an Omega,” Tong Sui said.
“Let’s go to an off-campus hospital instead?” Tong Sui suggested.
“No, no, it’s fine. I feel much better already,” Jiang Che responded. “I just need to lay down in my dorm for a bit.”
“Okay, then I’ll go with you,” Tong Sui offered.
He closed the laboratory door securely. “Let’s go.”
“Oh.”
Tong Sui remembered the differences between Alphas and Omegas, so he maintained a distance while walking alongside Jiang Che.
Jiang Che walked carefully, stealing glances at Tong Sui discreetly, but the latter kept his distance and didn’t meet his gaze.
Jiang Che could sense that Tong Sui was helping him not out of affection, yet despite that, his heart raced.
Tong Sui was like the moon on the horizon; appearing close enough to touch when it reflected on the lake’s surface, yet merely a mirage when reached for.
Jiang Che remained silent until he finally couldn’t contain himself, gripping his shirt tightly and calling out to Tong Sui.
“I want to know, why are you willing to help me?”
In comparison to Tong Sui, he felt his family background and personal abilities were insignificant, completely overshadowed in the military academy.
Tong Sui pondered for a moment, interrupting Jiang Che’s self-deprecating thoughts. “It takes a lot of courage for Omegas to enter a military academy, and I believe you can carve a new path for Omegas.”
“Can I really do that?”
“You should be asking yourself that question,” Tong Sui advised.
Tong Sui opened the dorm door, revealing an empty room inside.
He heard Jiang Che standing at the door say, “I’ll do my best, Tong Sui. Thank you.”
Tong Sui casually replied, “Yeah, but remember to wash that shirt before returning it to Xiaopang; don’t let him think you’re secretly dating an Omega.”
“Okay!”
Perhaps it was because Tong Sui didn’t change his attitude due to Jiang Che’s status, so Jiang Che felt a bit more at ease.
Tong Sui glanced at the time; there was still a while before their classes ended, so he changed clothes and lay down on the bed.
He covered himself with the blanket and dozed off on his side.
After Bian Sheng left, it felt as if the effect of the medicine he swallowed kicked in. He was burning up all over, with sharp pains in his stomach, cursing the followers who gave him the pills.
Didn’t they say this medicine has no effect on Alphas?
He hurried to the hospital for a stomach wash.
After going through that chaos, he was left pale, barely able to stand from vomiting and diarrhea.
He called those followers to the hospital.
When they arrived, they were oblivious to what had happened; they found Bian Sheng hooked up to an IV. “Boss, what happened to you?”
Bian Sheng lifted his foot and kicked one of them.
“It’s all your fault for giving me that medicine, what kind of nonsense is it? Or else how would I end up like this!”
“This medicine only works on Omegas, but in large doses, it can definitely be harmful. Why did you take it yourself?” one of the followers stammered.
Bian Sheng’s eyes flashed with resentment. Could he not have taken it himself? He couldn’t afford to offend the Tong family behind Tong Sui.
If they wanted to, they could close down their operations at any time.
The followers fawned over him, “You say who did this to you, we’ll get back at them.”
“Yeah, yeah, let’s retaliate.”
“Tong Sui.”
“This….”
Suddenly, the gang fell silent. How could they stand up to the Tong family? If they could, they wouldn’t be following Bian Sheng around.
After scolding the group, Bian Sheng finally felt better and said, “I have already applied to withdraw from the academy.”
He couldn’t confront them, but he could avoid them.
In the classroom.
The mechanical engineering first-year class suddenly fell eerily silent.
Everyone sat up straight, eyes glued to the light screen in front of them.
On the podium stood an older professor who, upon seeing this scene, instinctively glanced out the window.
He saw a tall figure standing at the back window.
Ye Linyuan frowned; he appeared to be in a bad mood, and his gloominess infected the classroom atmosphere, making it even more oppressive.
Who could have imagined that on the first day, the dean would personally patrol the classroom? And why was he just standing there, not leaving?
Help, this is terrifying!
They had heard upperclassmen refer to Ye Linyuan as the “King of Hell” since their admission, but they only recently realized how true that was when they felt the suffocating pressure he emitted up close.
“Class, take a look at the problems; I’ll step out for a moment,” the old professor announced.
As he left the classroom, other students stole glances at him, watching as he approached Ye Linyuan.
Separated by a wall, they couldn’t hear what they were discussing.
Ye Linyuan asked, “Is everyone here?”
“I called the roll before class started. Except for two students who are sick and took a leave of absence, and one who skipped class, everyone else is here,” the professor replied, handing the attendance list to Ye Linyuan.
He glanced at the sick students’ names on the list, one of which was Tong Sui.
Immediately following was a familiar name, one of the classmates who had shown interest in Tong Sui that day at the shooting range.
Ye Linyuan’s brow furrowed. “Did they say what was wrong?”
“Not really; they asked other classmates to request a leave on their behalf,” the old professor noted, surprised that Ye Linyuan was digging into such minor details. “Is something the matter? Did something happen?”
“It’s nothing. Please continue with the class.” Before leaving, Ye Linyuan added, “By the way, if Tong Sui takes leave again, please notify me.”
“Okay, sure.”
Ye Linyuan walked away briskly. The old professor squinted after him for a moment, as if realizing something, and shook his head with a smile.
Then he returned to continue the lecture.
Ye Linyuan moved quickly, even when someone greeted him along the way, he didn’t pause or lose focus.
He didn’t even know what he was afraid of.
